ITV News presenter Rageh Omaar found himself in hot water with Liverpool fans after a tongue-in-cheek jibe about the Premier League title race during Thursday evening’s show.
The news anchor is a self-confessed Arsenal fan and couldn’t resist commenting on Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Sheffield United that moved Jurgen Klopp‘s side back to the top of the table.
Arsenal are just two-points adrift of Liverpool heading into the weekend, with reigning champions Manchester City three-points out heading into the final few weeks of the season.
Liverpool face a daunting trip to rivals Man United on Sunday, while Arsenal take on Brighton and Man City make the trip to the capital to face Crystal Palace.
Omaar is clearly hoping the Reds slip-up at the weekend to give Arsenal a chance to rise to the summit after hilariously criticising Liverpool’s win over the Blades.

Announcing Liverpool’s latest win, the ITV presenter hilariously said: ‘To sport now and the tussle for the Premier League title is still as close as anything after Liverpool returned to the top of the table.
‘They beat bottom club Sheffield United 3-1. Alexis Mac Allister got the goal that turned the game, so Liverpool are, regrettably, two points clear of Arsenal.’
Alexis Mac Allister rescued victory for the Anfield hosts with a long-range stunner before Cody Gakpo added a third goal in the 90th minute to condemn Chris Wilder’s side to a 21st defeat of the season.
However, Omaar’s joke hasn’t gone down well with Reds supporters who have fumed online about his bias towards Arsenal in the race for the Premier League crown.
Taking to X to vent their frustration, one Liverpool fan stated: ‘My husband is a Liverpool supporter and he was livid at this comment, news presenters are supposed to be impartial!’
Another similarly criticised Omaar’s evident joke, stating: ‘ITV it is totally unacceptable for your news reporter to say it is “regrettable” that Liverpool football club has gone back to the top of the table. Extremely unprofessional by that presenter.’
However, Arsenal supporters jumped to the ITV host’s defence, with one hitting back: ‘Omaar always liked you as a newsreader, and now I find out you’re a Gooner too. Love it.’
A further supportive reply stated: ‘Lol it’s just a bit of banter. Rageh Omaar is a well known Arsenal fan.’
Omaar hasn’t directly commented on the incident but has reposted a few Arsenal comments on his X profile in response to criticism.
