If you were to point out one fixture that seemingly derailed Tottenham Hotspur’s progress this season under Ange Postecoglou, it was the match against London rivals Chelsea. After Spurs came out firing early, a succession of red cards and injuries could have turned the match into a thumping the other way. Instead, the Lilywhites were able to hold their heads high as they continued to take the fight to the Blues in near hopeless circumstances.
Unfortunately, the casualties from that fixture caused Spurs to drop down the table, and it’s been hard to regain any consistency or momentum since. Now, it’s time for Tottenham Hotspur, with their North London Derby loss on the weekend still fresh in their minds, to avenge that loss to ex-manager Mauricio Pochettino’s new club late last year and get things back on track.
Both sides have been hit by injury: Ben Davies and Timo Werner are now out for the season, leaving Spurs particularly short at left back, while Chelsea reportedly have only 11 fit senior players with which to form a squad. Honestly, though – if history is anything to go by, it won’t matter who is selected; this match will be a tinder box awaiting a spark regardless.
COYS!
Please note – the live coverage will likely be patchy due to staff vacancies, and there will be no Community Player Ratings thread post-match for the same reason; there will definitely be a Player Ratings article in the coming days though!

Match thread rules
The match thread rules are the same as always. To any visitors coming here for the first time, welcome! We’re glad you’re here! Wipe your feet, mind the gap, and be sure to check out the other pages at this outstanding site. While you’re here, though, we have a few rules and regulations:
- Absolutely no links to illegal streams. They’re bad and they get us in trouble. Violators will be warned or banned.
- We have rules against “relentless negativity.” Nobody likes a Negative Nancy. Don’t knee-jerk and post outlandish or hurtful things just because you’re frustrated.
- Along those lines, outright abuse of players or match officials is also not allowed. It’s fine to say “wow, that was a really bad call,” but it’s NOT okay to direct copious amounts of abuse in the direction of said official over a call you did not like.
- Treat other people in the match thread the way you would want someone else to treat your grandmother. Be nice. This is a community of fans, not an un-moderated message board.
- NO SPIDERS!
- Finally, while we don’t have a rule against profanity, please try and keep the naughty words in check. Also, language that is sexist, racist, transphobic, or homophobic in nature will be swiftly deleted and you will be immediately banned. This is an open, supportive community.
Have fun, and COYS!
