Two arrests have been made after a Leeds United supporter was attacked outside Norwich City’s Carrow Road stadium.
The incident occurred after Norwich hosted Leeds United in the first leg of their Championship promotion play-off semi-final.
Norwich confirmed that two arrests have been made.
“Norwich City can confirm that a Leeds United supporter received medical treatment following an incident that occurred outside Carrow Road following Sunday’s Sky Bet Championship play-off fixture,” a club statement read.
“The supporter was seen by paramedics at the scene and did not require further medical treatment.
“Two individuals were arrested by Norfolk Police in connection with the incident. The club will now work closely with the police to fully investigate the incident, understand the facts and take appropriate action.”
When approached for comment by The Athletic, Norfolk Constabulary said: “Two men have been arrested following an incident in Norwich this afternoon (May 12). The incident happened shortly after 2pm when a man in his 60s reported being punched outside Norwich City FC’s stadium in Carrow Road.
“An object is also believed to have been thrown at the victim who suffered a cut to his chin. The victim was seen by paramedics at the scene and did not require further medical treatment. No knife was used.
“A man aged in his late teens was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault GBH and taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning. A man aged in 50s was also arrested at the scene on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning. Both men remain in custody.
“Officers believe another man was also involved in this afternoon’s incident and enquiries are ongoing to locate him. An investigation has been launched to establish the full circumstances of exactly what happened.”
Sunday’s match finished goalless ahead of the second leg at Elland Road on Thursday.
Leeds finished third in the Championship regular season — missing out on automatic promotion to the Premier League by one place — on 90 points, while Norwich finished in sixth place, 17 points further back.
West Bromwich Albion are up against Southampton in the other play-off semi-final, with the two sides playing out a 0-0 draw at The Hawthorns on Sunday.
