This summer Arne Slot will take over as manager of Liverpool replacing Jürgen Klopp and one of the most notable additions to the coaching staff is Sipke Hulshoff, who previously played assistant to Slot at Feyenoord.
Hulshoff (49) has a long history of coaching in football. In the 2016–17 season he and Slot were first involved at the Dutch club Cambuur. They collaborated at Feyenoord as a result of their successful professional partnership.
Hulshoff began his career with Feyenoord’s under-21 squad but his skills and knowledge soon earned him a promotion to assistant manager in 2022.
Hulshoff had been juggling his responsibilities at Feyenoord with a spot in the Netherlands national team lineup until recently.
Because of his position there he interacted with a number of important players including Ryan Gravenberch, Cody Gakpo and Virgil van Dijk of Liverpool.
Van Dijk who believes his teammates feel the same way has praised Hulshoff for his excellent tactical acumen and clear communication.
He has also mentioned how much he enjoys leading training sessions. It appears that Hulshoff’s decision to leave the Dutch national team prior to Euro 2024 was a calculated move to ease his move to Liverpool.

Some of Liverpool’s best players will join the new coaching staff a little later in the summer due to ongoing summer competitions like the Euros and Copa América.
Hulshoff has accumulated a wide range of experiences throughout his career. In addition to his noteworthy assignments in the Netherlands he has served as manager of Al-Arabi and Red Bull Ghana.
Despite these experiences , the majority of his career has been devoted to assistant coaching positions at different levels demonstrating his aptitude for encouraging and growing groups of people.
The extensive reorganization at Liverpool coincides with the departure of numerous long-serving assistants under Klopp including Pep Lijnders for other opportunities.
For example, Lijnders was appointed manager of Red Bull Salzburg. These adjustments will leave Hulshoff and other Feyenoord-based members of Slot’s backroom staff vacant.
