Bayern Munich youngster Mathys Tel has a bright future ahead of him, but at what position?
Originally brought to Germany as a striker, Tel started to morph into more of a prospect at wing over the course of the course of this season.
So, where does the youngster prefer to play? The Frenchman had an interesting response.
Your favourite position on the pitch?
“I’d say left forward,” Tel told Goal (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
That could be an interesting little twist to the club’s assessment of its wing situation this summer. Rumors are floating that multiple wingers could be sold, which could conceivably open up playing time for Tel in a wide position. This, of course, could all shift just a little if Vincent Kompany deploys a 4-4-2 as has been rumored.
That said, Bayern Munich did try to give Tel its #9 jersey when he arrived, but the youngster politely declined.
“I could’ve taken the number 9 shirt, but I set myself a number of challenges to take on. I didn’t want to take it straight away because it’s a symbolic number at the club. I preferred to keep my number 39 and set myself challenges to earn that number 9 when I’m satisfied with my work,” Tel remarked.
