Bayern Munich have been loosely linked to Real Sociedad player Martin Zubimendi ever since a last minute move for Fulham’s Joao Palhinha collapsed on the last day of the 2023 summer transfer window. However, things have changed since as Max Eberl joined the club to take charge of its’ sporting direction. Now it seems Bayern Munich’s quest to sign Zubimendi has diminished in importance.
Tobi Altschäffl and Christian Falk, as captured by @iMiaSanMia, report that “Bayern have cooled their interest in Martín Zubimendi. The Spaniard is seen more of a #8 than #6. Bayern’s focus is on a ‘real holding midfielder’.”
So who could be this ‘real holding midfielder’ that they are prioritizing? “[Everton FC player] Amadou Onana remains a hot topic of interest for the club. João Palhinha is also still on the list, but the price should be reasonable.”
It looks as if Bayern will be focusing on the English Premier League duo from now on. Dreesen’s quote of “most of the time, you see each other twice in life” may finally ring true with Palhinha now.
