AFC Bournemouth have announced that five members of the first team squad will be released this summer following the expiration of their contracts.
The biggest name on the list was already known, announced by the player himself shortly after the season had ended. That of course, was former AFC Bournemouth promotion-winning captain Lloyd Kelly. He is expected to be reunited with former AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe at Newcastle United.
Kelly amassed 141 appearances in all competitions for AFC Bournemouth, including 79 appearances in the Championship where he captained the side to promotion in 2022.
He also made 54 appearances in the Premier League for the Cherries.
The next two also do not come as no great surprise, with the duo having already left the Cherries on loan last season.
Jamal Lowe and Emiliano Marcondes have both spent recent seasons away from the south coast.
Lowe hasn’t featured for AFC Bournemouth since December 2022, having spent the last season and a half out on loan with Queens Park Rangers and Swansea City respectively. The 29-year-old has scored 12 goals in the Championship for his adopted sides.
Fellow 29-year-old Emiliano Marcondes hasn’t played in AFC Bournemouth colours since November 2022 having had loan spells away in both Denmark and Scotland with Nordsjaelland and Hibernian, both leaving the club as free agents.
Next on the list was 31-year-old right-back Ryan Fredericks.
Fredericks joined AFC Bournemouth in June 2022 and made just 13 appearances for the club due to injury. His last appearance was a 10-minute substitute appearance against Liverpool in March 2023, with his last start coming all the way back in November 2022.
Also departing is goalkeeper Darren Randolph, the former Republic of Ireland shotstopper made the move to Dean Court in January 2023 and failed to make a single appearance for the club. His last professional outing was over three years ago in May 2021 for West Ham United.
There was better news for 16 members of the AFC Bournemouth development squad were were told that they would be retained for next season.
