Man United are expected to make an announcement soon, confirming Jonny Evans will stay at the club for another year.
Manchester United’s squad is going to undergo major change this summer, with Erik ten Hag looking to improve the dressing room and help move this club up the table.
Keeping some experience around could help ease the transition, particularly if the expected mass exodus does happen.
Jonny Evans’ future is intriguing. The Northern Irishman had a pretty good campaign from a personal perspective. Whenever called upon, the 36-year-old never let his teammates down, playing probably more minutes than he would have thought.
Evans is out of contract this summer, with the club mulling over the decision on what to do with the boyhood Red Devil.
Well, according to Football Insider, that decision has been made, with an ‘imminent’ announcement set to be confirmed by the club on that front. Evans is going to sign a new one-year deal at the Theatre of Dreams.
Evans’ current deal was due to expire at the end of June, though talks have been positive between the player and the club, with Ten Hag said to be a ‘huge fan’ of the defender.
This is probably an unexpected decision, but given the major change within the dressing room, keeping his experience around could end up being vital.
Evans has shown that he can dip in and out of the side when needed, using all of his quality to help this United side in real dire situations. I am more than pleased with the decision to keep him around for another year – and no doubt the player himself is buzzing to be kept on by United.
