Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies has been the center of many, many transfer rumors linking him to 2024 Champions League winners Real Madrid. Though the club has put in effort to renew his dwindling contract with reports that new head coach Vincent Kompany values the Canadian and wants to retain him, with just over 12 months before his contract expires, Davies still has not agreed fresh terms with Bayern Munich. With rumors abound that his eyes are on a cut price move to Real Madrid.
Naturally, the press would ignore the sanctity of maintaining a healthy team atmosphere and ask Davies about these rumors while he was away on international duty with Canada at the Copa America. Davies’ answer, captured by @iMiaSanMia, was fairly standard: “My main focus right now is with my national team — to help my team go far in this tournament. Now that’s where my head’s at.”
But what about after the tournament? “I’ll think about it when we’re past this tournament.”
One would assume there would not be much to think about if there was no move on the table. Perhaps one can be generous and say he is putting this much thought into his contract extension. But, increasingly, it feels like Davies has something else in mind.
