Kingsley Coman, Bayern Munich’s injury prone winger, feels quite at home in Bavaria after nine years in Germany. He is not the only one in the France EURO 2024 squad to have played in Germany. Dayot Upamecano of course plays for Bayern Munich while Marcus Thuram used to represent Borussia Mönchengladbach and Randal Kolo Muani used to represent Eintracht Frankfurt. Moreover, Benjamin Pavard represented both Stuttgart and Bayern Munich, Ibrahima Konaté represented Leipzig and Ousmane Dembélé played for Borussia Dortmund.
More young French players are currently developing in the Bundesliga such as Manu Koné (Gladbach), Hugo Ekitiké (Frankfurt) and Mathys Tel (Bayern). Bayern itself has had a history of French players who spent many years at the club and left as legends — one such player, Willy Sagnol, is coaching one of the teams at EURO 2024, Georgia.
Coman was asked what attracts young French players to the Bundesliga. He had the following to say according to @iMiaSanMia:
Coman on the reason young French players go to the Bundesliga and do well there: “Football in Germany is very open with a lot of rhythm. The fans are great. The Bundesliga is a good destination for young French players – there’s maybe a bit less competition than in other leagues.… pic.twitter.com/U0yLkJ19bl

Here are Coman’s words in full:
Coman on the reason young French players go to the Bundesliga and do well there: “Football in Germany is very open with a lot of rhythm. The fans are great. The Bundesliga is a good destination for young French players – there’s maybe a bit less competition than in other leagues. Although for me I’m at Bayern so it was different. But in general it’s a good league to ‘explode’ at the high level”
Coman mentions the great aspects of the Bundesliga but also mentions that it might just be less competitive than other leagues. And then he adds that he is at Bayern Munich and so things were different from the get-go. Other French Bundesliga stars not playing for Bayern might have a slightly different view of the competitive aspect!
As for Coman, Bayern fans of course hope that he plays well at EURO 2024 and returns injury free ahead of 2024/25.
