Man United and Erik ten Hag have made the signing of Joshua Zirkzee a priority this summer.
Manchester United need to bring in some genuine quality up top this summer. Anthony Martial is now a thing of the past, while Rasmus Hojlund cannot carry the striker burden all on his own. The Dane needs help.
Over the last week or so, the name most linked with providing that support is Joshua Zirkzee. The Dutchman, aged 23, had a pretty good season for Bologna in Serie A last term.
Now, Gianluca Di Marzio has provided an update on Zirkzee’s future.
According to Di Marzio’s information, the star, who scored 12 goals in his most recent campaign, is ‘at the top of the list’ for Erik ten Hag this summer.
United’s Dutch manager is said to have ‘great respect’ for Zirkzee, while the Reds view the player as one of the ‘most important objectives’ during the current transfer window. Ten Hag is said to have spoken to the player in ‘recent days’.
The Old Trafford side will not have it all their own way in the chase for Zirkzee, with AC Milan also said to be keen as they look to find a replacement for Olivier Giroud.
Zirkzee’s goals could be crucial for a United side who are looking to get back in amongst it with the Premier League big-boys this season. He feels like the ideal signing, as someone who can dip in and out of the team as and when required.
Zirkzee would also come with plenty of upside. His best years are ahead of him and playing with a better quality of player would only help the Dutchman develop and grow at a quicker rate. This would be an excellent piece of business if he Red Devils could somehow pull it off.
