The last we heard from Ryan Sessegnon, he had been released from his Tottenham Hotspur contract effective at the end of June and was free to sign as a free agent with any club that would have him. Now we think we know where he’ll end up. David Ornstein reports in The Athletic that Sess is currently training with Crystal Palace ahead of what is expected to be a free agent signing as soon as today.

Spurs fans think of Sessegnon as a player who never lived up to his potential at the club — and he didn’t — but really he’s a talented footballer who was hamstrung, sometimes literally, by repeated and pernicious injuries. He’s somehow only 24 years old, with plenty of prime footballing years ahead of him. Releasing him from his Tottenham contract was the correct decision for all parties, not because he’s not a good footballer but because he needed and deserved a fresh start with another club.
And he’ll get one at Palace. This is a good landing place for him. For starters he’ll stay in London so he doesn’t have to relocate or buy a new house, and also he should get more opportunities to actually play football there should he stay healthy. It’s a good situation and I wish nothing but the best for him, so long as he doesn’t torch Pedro Porro defensively when Spurs play against Palace next season.
