Erik tne Hag has been in direct contact with Joshua Zirkzee, as the Red Devils continue to push for the signing of the striker.
Manchester United could do with some extra fire power this summer. It goes without saying that after Anthony Martial has left, the club have no choice but to bring in an attacker of some description. In an ideal world, the Reds will find the perfect support striker for Rasmus Hojlund.
Filling that gap isn’t easy. Not many players will be happy with a back-up role at any club, no less a young player who is trying to make a name for himself by starting games regularly.
The Old Trafford side have seemingly identified Joshua Zirkzee as the perfect candidate for United, after the Dutchman scored twelve goals for Serie A side Bologna last term.
Now, journalist Florian Plettenberg has offered an encouraging update on that front. He states that Ten Hag has been in direct contact with the potential signing, while the United gaffer has also personally met Zirkzee’s agents.
The striker remains a top target for United, while the Reds are ‘willing’ to trigger the £33m release clause in Zirkzee’s contract.
It’s worth noting that AC Milan is still in the race to sign Zirkzee, who will not decide his future until after the European Championship.

The striker would be an excellent piece of business. He’d certainly offer something different for this United side, largely due to his height, standing at 6ft 4.
Zirkzee is an emerging player who enjoyed himself in Serie A last term. Now, he has to choose whether to make the jump up to the Premier League with United, or stay in Italy with AC Milan.
You’d like to think that Ten Hag has offered Zirkzee assurances over playing time, which could well swing the pendulum in the Reds’ favour.
