Hammers majority owner David Sullivan has told Newcastle what needs to happen in order to strike a deal with West Ham.
West Ham and Newcastle United have shared several transfer market tussles in recent seasons.
The Hammers and Magpies have been linked with a host of mutual targets in previous windows.
From Sven Botman, Nayef Aguerd and Alphonse Areola and Lucas Paqueta in the past to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Dominic Solanke this summer.
Indeed there has even been speculation that Newcastle wanted Declan Rice and are now interested in Jarrod Bowen.
Those reports have been laughed off in West Ham circles.
Especially as PSR is preventing Newcastle making use of the vast riches at their disposal.
That has been evident of late with Newcastle United being forced to sell Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest and Yankuba Minteh to Brighton.
Potential deal on cards between Newcastle and West Ham
In an ideal world, Newcastle would not be selling two quality young players.
Instead they would much rather offload ageing players such as Callum Wilson – an alleged target for West Ham.
Wilson has always been a thorn in West Ham’s side on the pitch.
The England forward was linked with a move to the Hammers when he was leaving Bournemouth.
West Ham allegedly saw a bid turned down at the time and he joined Newcastle to link up with his old manager Eddie Howe instead.
There has been talk Newcastle want to try and sell Wilson, who turns 33 next season, this summer.
And last week Chronicle Live claimed their sources had told them West Ham have made enquiries to sign Wilson in a cash deal.
West Ham are on the hunt for a new striker this summer as technical director Tim Steidten and new head coach Julen Lopetegui oversee a major rebuild.
Financially West Ham are in a better position with regards PSR than Newcastle. But the Hammers are in need of many more additions as Lopetegui has been left with the second oldest and smallest squad in the Premier League.
Sullivan tells Newcastle what needs to happen for West Ham deal
As well as Solanke and Calvert-Lewin, West Ham have been linked with Youssef En-Nesyri, Armando Broja, Samu Omorodion, Georges Mikautadze, Jhon Duran and now Wilson – to name but a few.
At nearly 33 and injury-prone, Wilson does not seem to fit Steidten’s recruitment philosophy.
But now Hammers News can confirm West Ham do have an interest in signing Wilson.
And David Sullivan has told Newcastle what needs to happen for a deal with West Ham.
Journalist Graeme Bailey spoke to Hammers News to deliver an exclusive update.
“Regarding a striker, I was also told that Sullivan won’t pay big money for Callum Wilson due to his injury record,” Bailey told Hammers News.
“He likes him.
“But it would need to be a cheap deal in order for West Ham to take him from Newcastle.”
Wilson only makes sense as one of two striker signings
With the Hammers planning to offload their own ageing striker Danny Ings, perhaps West Ham are planning to sign two strikers this summer.
A younger forward who can be around for the next four or five years and someone like Wilson who can provide experienced, proven back-up without the demands on his body of starting week in, week out.
If that was the case – and Sullivan gets his wish of a cheaper deal – then it could make sense for both Newcastle and West Ham.
It should also be noted that Wilson is with Will Salthouse’s Unique Sports Group agency.
Salthouse is close with Hammers majority owner Sullivan and his sons Jack and Dave.
He was also reportedly heavily involved in West Ham appointing Lopetegui this summer.
