From the Board…
Welcome to our Summer edition of the BU Newsletter. We’re celebrating some of the amazing women who make our Bees community so special. Helen LIppell, Mastermind finalist and West Stand Season Ticket Holder, has set a quiz for BU members where you can pit your wits for the chance to win a signed shirt from Christian Nørgaard. We also hear from Vickie Cockram, Manager of the mighty Brentford Penguins FC, Karen Visser, a BFC Member and volunteer with the RNLI, on the Chiswick Lifeboat and the amazing Sophie Power, Bees fan and ultra marathon runner.
On Saturday 8th June I went along to the brilliant Brentford Green Fair at St Paul’s Church where a host of local groups were participating in the Great Big Green Week.
This year the theme was “Lets swap together for Good”, encouraging community swaps as part of everyday life to help create a better tomorrow.
It was great to join colleagues from Brentford FC, Sustaina-bees and BIAS and chat with the community about how we might work together to support the Club’s sustainability strategy and future plans.
We know that sustainability matters to many of you and a recent fan survey by the Club indicated that :
- Brentford fans on average rate the importance of sustainability at 8.1 (out of 10)
- 62% of fans are at least somewhat aware of the club’s sustainability efforts
- Fans, on average, rate the effectiveness of the club’s sustainability initiatives at 6.7 (out of 10)
- Fans identified reducing waste as the most desired action for the club to take, citing recycling at Gtech Community Stadium as a key topic
- 64% of fans surveyed want to hear more about the club’s sustainability efforts
There is always more we can do so we’re delighted to be part of a BFC Sustainability Working Group (with Sustaina-bees and BIAS) looking at how fans are kept up to date with Club initiatives and are able to feed in their issues and the actions they would like to take.
Watch this space for updates and if you have any comments or ideas on what the Club and fans should be doing to be as sustainable as possible [contact Sharon]
You can find more here about the BFC Sustainability Strategy :
You can also join Sustaina-bees Facebook group here .
They are an independent Brentford fans group with knowledge and concern about the environmental crisis. They want to engage stakeholders from across our community in an open conversation about the sustainability journey the club and we fans are on.
Enjoy what’s left of the Summer break and see you at the Gtech for our season opener against Crystal Palace on 18th August. COYB or even before that at one the friendly fixtures hopefully!!
Enjoy the sun!
