Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl has reportedly given some members of the team bad news — they are no longer assured of anything when it comes to starting and at least one case, the player is not in the club’s plans at all any longer.
According to a report from Sport Bild journalists Christian Falk and Tobi Altschäffl (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). Eberl and Vincent Kompany have communicated to some players that they are no longer guaranteed starters or in at least one case, a player’s service was no longer needed:
Max Eberl and Vincent Kompany have defined the players that will have a tough time this season if they stay at the club. The message is that players, who once were key players, are no longer guaranteed starters.
The players affected have already been informed. Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka are among them. Eberl has also personally informed Matthijs de Ligt’s agent Rafaela Pimenta that he’s not included in the club’s plans.
Kimmich, Goretzka, and De Ligt are not the only affected players, though. Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman have consistently been linked to being sold in recent reports as well.
BFW Analysis
This is a bold strategy for a front office without much of a track record of winning anything consistently — and coach whose team just got relegate. Such is life in Bavaria these days, where change is everywhere and could touch everyone.
The interesting part of this story (if true) would be know which side leakes this? The players, who might be proactively trying to show that the cub is moving on from many of the existing stars…or the front office looking to assert its dominance over the roster and take advantage of a large segment of fans panicking over a trophyless season?
Will this stripmine tactic work or will fans be sitting here a year from now pondering why the insistence on many changes might have been too hasty?
