Harry Kane just can’t catch a break. After 11 seasons at Tottenham Hotspur, the England striker went to Bayern Munich, where he saw the German Rekordmeister snap its 11-year Bundesliga title-winning streak. The 30-year-old has now missed out on his first five shots at silverware since joining Bayern: the Bundesliga, Champions League, DFB-Pokal, DFL-Supercup, and now EURO 2024, after England fell 2-1 to Spain in Sunday’s Final.
Worse, Kane has apparently been carrying and playing through injury issues, as England coach Gareth Southgate revealed.
But Kane doesn’t want to talk about it.
“No, it’s not time to talk about personal things,” Kane said for BBC after the match when asked on the topic (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “The tournament plays out in different situations. You deal with a lot as a player throughout these tournaments. Everyone is dealing with issues and you’re at your maximum physical capabilities. It was just the way the game panned out today and the way the tournament’s gone.
“Of course, from a personal point of view, I would have loved to have played better tonight and it would’ve been a different outcome, but unfortunately it wasn’t.”
The star striker won a share of the golden boot at the tournament alongside Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala and four other players — but, like his other Bayern teammate Leroy Sané, looks to have physical fitness issues to manage as well as the emotional toll of going so far and coming up short.
