Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany is making it his “mission” to bring Rennes attacker Désiré Doué to Bavaria:
Vincent Kompany has made it his personal mission to help Bayern Munich sign Desire Doue before several Premier League clubs including Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, it has been revealed. Despite getting relegated with Burnley last season, Kompany has joined Bayern as their new head coach. The Bundesliga titans paid Burnley around £10million to release Kompany from his contract after failing to convince Thomas Tuchel to complete a U-turn and stay in charge at the Allianz Arena.
According to German journalist Florian Plettenberg, who regularly breaks news on Bayern transfers, Kompany is eager to sign Rennes starlet Doue for the club. The left winger, who can also play as a No 10 or on the right flank, is only 19 years old but has already built up a reputation as one of the best young players in France.
Paris Saint-Germain are also in the mix, as they want to keep the teenager in France, but Bayern are leading the race as things stand. Bayern are in ‘advanced talks’ with both Doue and Rennes as they close in on his signing. Kompany has also spoken with Doue over the phone to explain the club’s project and how the player will fit in.
Oliver Kahn was part of the decision-making process at the time that Bayern Munich inked Matthijs de Ligt away from Juventus, but the former goalkeeper and club executive thinks that concerns over injuries could be powering the club’s desire to sell De Ligt:
Oliver Kahn was quoted via German channel Sport1 expressing his admiration for the Dutchman, and his regret at how the centre-back had not quite hit the peaks he believes he is capable of. Kahn explained: “I think incredibly highly of Matthijs”, adding that he sees him as “a guy who can grow into a leadership role. Unfortunately, he was repeatedly set back by injuries,” Kahn added.
He went on to say: “We thought he would grow into the role that David Alaba played. Unfortunately, that doesn’t look like the case at the moment.”
Bayern are weighing up various options in the transfer market as they reflect on a difficult season where they failed to win the Bundesliga title, and have just appointed Vincent Kompany. Kahn wants the German side to carefully examine their situation, adding: “They will certainly give a lot of thought, and hopefully good thought, to why things are the way they are.”
Kahn could have a point, but this is also the same club who hung in there on Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry for years.
Now that EURO 2024 is over, we shift our focus back to Bayern Munich — which is good because there’s plenty to talk about. The transfer window is open and the club are looking to raise some solid money from sales, but there are rumors that it’s not just players, but even board members who could be on the chopping block this summer.
Meanwhile, Thomas Müller just announced his retirement from international football. It wasn’t unexpected, but you can’t help but feel he still had something left to give. This is a sad day for fans of the German NT.
In this episode, INNN discusses the following:
- Why keeping Alphonso Davies without a contract extension is a HUGE mistake — Bayern Munich would be nuts to go through with it.
- Is Jan-Christian Dreesen on his way out? Does he deserve to be sacked? Who can even replace him?
- A short (okay, maybe not that short) rant on Thomas Müller’s retirement from international football. Warning: This part of the podcast contains SPECULATION and maybe a few hot takes.
- Harry Kane’s mysterious injury and what it might mean for the upcoming season under Vincent Kompany.
- An attempt to close out the podcast on a positive note.
Here we go again! Real Madrid is the favorite to sign Bayern Munich’s…Serge Ibaka (!?).
No, this is not quite Toni Kroos, but can’t Madrid eventually send something back in return than James Rodriguez?
A 14-year NBA veteran, Serge Ibaka, is expected to join Real Madrid, sources tell BasketNews.
The 34-year-old center has officially left Bayern Munich, bidding farewell to the club in a social media message.
“In a moment where many doubted me, Bayern gave me an opportunity. It was an honor to represent one of the biggest sports brands and institutions in the World,” he wrote in an Instagram post.
In recent days, Bayern Munich star Serge Gnabry has been linked to both Arsenal FC and Newcastle United. However, Sky Sport journo Florian Plettenberg is sticking to his guns and saying that Gnabry has no intention of leaving Bavaria this summer:
The German national team lost in the quarterfinals of the EURO 2024 competition in dramatic fashion to a very good side from Spain, but there was much to unpack from the overall experience.
Bavarian Podcast Works is unveiling a three-part mini-series on Germany’s performance at the tournament, so buckle up and take the ride with us.
Here is what we have on tap for Episode 1 of this mini-series as we look at the team’s progress under head coach Julian Nagelsmann:
- It is important to remember that this showing represented progress.
- The ability to connect with players was key and the team responded to the coaching staff.
- There was a true sense of “oneness” and “team” within the squad.
- Nagelsmann still tinkers too much, is too loyal to certain players, and can’t help overcomplicating things.
- Nagelsmann needs to manage the generational transition very carefully.
- Overall, Germany is headed in the right direction.
Real Madrid could be planning to get both Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies and Lille’s Leny Yoro this summer:
According to journalist Jorge C Picon, Real Madrid are actively pursuing the signing of two defenders, Leny Yoro and Alphonso Davies. The situations involving these players, however, are currently quite uncertain. While there seems to be progress in the negotiations for Yoro, his team, Lille, continues to press him to accept a more financially lucrative offer from Manchester United.
On the other hand, the pursuit of Alphonso Davies is progressing more slowly. Although there have been discussions, the teams have yet to sit down for formal negotiations. When it comes to Yoro, Manchester United are eagerly awaiting his decision. They are prepared to offer a significant fixed sum, ranging from €40 million to €50 million, and have proposed a contract that could extend his stay until 2029, with an option for an additional year.
Despite this attractive offer, Yoro is hesitating, holding out for a potential move to Real Madrid. However, Lille’s reluctance to consider Real Madrid’s €40 million bid has made the negotiations challenging.
Davies’ acquisition raises several questions for Real Madrid, primarily because the team already has two left-backs, Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia. Adding another left-back could create complications within the squad. Reports suggest that Garcia might be sacrificed to make room for Davies, but manager Carlo Ancelotti could also opt to utilise Davies in a different role. As reported before, Ancelotti sees potential in Davies playing further up the pitch. He could be deployed as a wing-back in midfield or even as an outright winger, roles he has excelled in at Bayern Munich.
In summary, Real Madrid’s efforts to sign Yoro and Davies are ongoing but fraught with challenges. While Yoro’s situation is complicated by Lille’s pressure and Manchester United’s tempting offer, Real Madrid remains optimistic. As for Davies, his potential role in the team is still under consideration, with Ancelotti weighing the benefits of his attacking skills against the current roster’s composition.
