Uli Hoeness, legendary ex-president of Bayern Munich, recently publically confirmed Bayern’s intention to either renew with Bavarian roadrunner Alphonso Davies Davies on the clubs terms or let his current contract, which ends in 2025, expire. Spanish news outlet Diario AS then jumped on these quotes and even reported that Davies and Real Madrid have already agreed the terms of a free transfer in 2025. The vital part of AS’ report reads like this:
Alphonso Davies (23 years old) will have to wait another year to see his dream of playing for Real Madrid come true. According to AS, the Canadian left-back will run out his contract with Bayern Munich, which ends on June 30, 2025.
Of course, how reliable this news outlet is is up for debate. They do go on to paint Toni Kroos’ transfer fee in his move from Bayern to Real (of €25 million back in 2014) as a fair comparative fee, completely disregarding inflation, while even claiming that Bayern had offered a 14 million net salary. That kind of salary would have made Davies Bayern’s highest paid player, even ahead of Harry Kane. It did not take long for a German outlet to refute this report: Bild reports, as captured by @iMiaSanMia:
Real Madrid and Alphonso Davies have not reached an agreement over a free transfer in 2025, contrary to today’s report in Spain. Nevertheless, everything currently indicates that Davies will go into the final year of his contract at Bayern.
While the Spanish news outlet’s report may or may not be accurate, it is impossible to shake the feeling that a free transfer of Davies to Real Madrid becomes more likely by the day.
