Xavi Simons’ second loan spell at Lawn Ballsport Leipzig until 2025 has now officially been confirmed, with the club that is still too young to drink beating out Bayern Munich for the talented young Dutchman. However, this may not mean that Bayern cannot eventually get their hands on the former FC Barcelona youngster.
After all, the loan agreement between parent club Paris Saint Germain and Leipzig does include an option to make the deal permanent. As Florian Plettenberg reports, and captured by @iMiaSanMia, Bayern could try again for him in 2025. But the X-factor here is Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz:
Bayern’s number #1 target for the attacking midfield position next summer is Florian Wirtz. But if a deal for Wirtz proved to be impossible, then Xavi Simons remains a candidate for Bayern next year. A deal for the Dutchman would be more simple next summer as [former club] PSV will no longer [have a valid sell on clause] and Simons would only have two years left on his PSG contract. Max Eberl and Xavi Simons still have a good relationship.
Wirtz has been rumored to be the top target of the Bayern brass for many years. But if he or Leverkusen say no to a move to Bayern, then Simons might just bring his talents to Munich after all…
