Mohammed Kudus is currently away from West Ham United on international duty with his country Ghana.
West Ham star Mohammed Kudus is a hugely important player for us, and he is for Ghana as well.
The 24-year-old attacker moved to the London Stadium from Ajax in the summer of 2023 for around £38 million.
He was sensational for the Hammers last season, but he has struggled to replicate that form for us this term under Julen Lopetegui.
The Hammers head coach and the Ghanaian actually fell out in the half-time break during our 1-1 draw with Brentford 12 days ago.
However, the West Ham owners apparently immediately contacted Kudus’s representatives after the incident, in order to explain to them that everything was fine between the player and manager.
It’s very much a case of onwards and upwards for Kudus and West Ham now.
And he might just be more motivated than ever before after he was name-checked by a football association president.
West Ham star Mohammed Kudus singled out during FA president rant
The 24-year-old faces back-to-back AFCON qualification clashes with Sudan over the next four days.
Ghana’s hopes rest on Kudus’s shoulders. He carries the weight of the nation, and is by far their best player.
Maybe that’s why he has just been name-checked by one of the most powerful people in Ghanaian football.
Speaking on Ghana’s official YouTube channel, President of the Ghana Football Association Kurt E.S Okraku decided to single out Kudus during a motivational speech.
“When Kudus, you were not born, this team existed. This team was represented.”
That really is an interesting move from Okraku.
He was clearly trying to humble Kudus – the superstar of the Ghanaian team, ahead of two hugely important fixtures.
Still, it was rather bizarre of him to single out just one player from the national team. I guess it depends how Kudus responds to the barb from Okraku.
In fairness, I would like to see the president of the English FA come into the England dressing room and do the same thing!
Mohammed Kudus finally getting back to his best
The 24-year-old has experienced a really slow start to the 2024/25 season with the Hammers.
However, he seemed to be back to somewhere near his best during our 4-1 win over Ipswich Town on Saturday.
The two games he’s set to play for Ghana this week have probably come at a good time for him.
The former Ajax man will now get some more minutes into his legs, as he looks to get up to full match fitness.
Hopefully Mohammed Kudus doesn’t return to West Ham injured – that really would be a disaster.
We have some hugely important games on the horizon against the likes of Tottenham, Manchester United, Newcastle and Arsenal.
The Hammers need Kudus to be firing on all cylinders over the next month or so.
It will be really interesting to see how he performs for Ghana against Sudan later today and on Monday. The words from the Ghanaian president may well motivate him to reach his best levels once again.
