Bayern Munich have not made many moves in the transfer market this summer, but one of the major new signings of the year looks to be a serious contender. French winger Michael Olise, signed from Crystal Palace for a fee in the region of £50m, has been setting the Olympics alight with his performances. He recently scored and assisted to give France a narrow win over Egypt in the semi finals of the tournament.
In fact, there’s barely been a game where Olise has not been on the scoresheet. Here’s what his tournament looks like thus far:
- 1 goal and 1 assist vs the United States.
- 1 assist vs New Guinea.
- No goals or assists vs New Zealand (only played 25 mins).
- 1 assist vs Argentina.
- 1 goal and 1 assist vs Egypt.
He was the highest rated player on L’Equipe’s player ratings, alongside Crystal Palace teammate Jean-Phillipe Mateta:
Olise and co. will now go on to face Spain in the gold medal match on Friday. After that, he’s expected to go on vacation, which will mean a late return to Germany for preseason. Bayern Munich fans might have to wait a little bit to see their new star winger in action. Still, it would be good to remain patient — having him suffer an injury before the season even starts would be a terrible outcome for all the parties involved.
Let’s hope Olise returns to Munich with gold in hand!
