The week in build up to the game was far from ideal having ended it by losing Joachim Andersen to Fulham and Jordan Ayew to Leicester City, with the weather at Selhurst matching the mood come the final whistle.

TEB VERDICT
A very disjointed performance from Palace and while preparations for the game were far from ideal, the result proves that there is a lot of work still to do before the transfer window closes.
There is far too much reliance on Ebere Eze to create and with a solo striker clearly struggling after appearing for his country at the Olympics, Tyrick Mitchell not being the wing back in this system, Chadi Riad making his debut and looking like a rabbit in headlights and another below par showing from Odsonne Edouard, the enthusiasm that fans had with the end of last season has all but disappeared.
It is certainly a work in progress and you hope that the club and Oliver Glasner know what they are doing, and while that remains to be seen, it is back to the drawing board at the training ground after losing the first two match of the season.
It was not all doom and gloom though as while Palace squandered several chances to score in each half, the fact that they are being created is better than nothing at all and with some more clinical finishing, both results could have been different.
POST GAME QUOTES
OLIVER GLASNER
“We’re all disappointed. It’s a little bit like deja vu from the last game. It’s a game we didn’t have to lose. At the moment, we’re not scoring. We hit the crossbar and then conceded from two transitions. We didn’t defend those situations particularly well.
You get punished if you don’t use your chances. That’s what we have to accept at the moment, but it’s disappointing. The positive thing is that we’re creating chances, but the reality is that we’ve played two games and we’ve only scored from an own goal.
Everybody’s talking about the end of last season, but we have to accept the reality. The reality is that we’ve lost two games, so we have to get back to a situation where we can win games.”
JULEN LOPETEGUI
“A lot of things were key. The first thing is to compete – we were able to compete and be resilient. They have only lost to Manchester City at home under Oliver Glasner, so we knew it would be difficult.
When you win, you need to be balanced. We have to improve and we have a lot to do. It is always important to be able to score goals, but it doesn’t matter who scores. Sometimes we suffer, but this is the Premier League. You always play against big teams.
We are happy with the commitment of the players on the pitch and on the bench. There are a lot of players who are able to help you on the bench, so I’m happy they were able to help. I’m happy for all of them.”
