A top source close to West Ham’s owners has lifted the lid on what they think about the Man City charges amid alleged ‘secrecy’ frustration.
West Ham and Manchester City have shared a close bond down the years, on and off the pitch.
They may not have too much in common nowadays given the gulf between them.
But historically Man City and the Hammers have spent much of their existence living in the shadows of rivals.
They also share something else in common after West Ham and Manchester City were both crowned champions of Europe last summer.
It’s a friendship that dates back to a famous game between the Hammers and Man City in 1987.
The love-in between fans of both clubs when West Ham lost 3-1 at the Etihad on the final day of last season to ensure Arsenal did not win the title an example of that continued bond.
Hammers and Man City’s close bond
It’s also fitting then that new West Ham head coach Julen Lopetegui and his Man City counterpart Pep Guardiola are close friends too.
Man City have tested West Ham relations in recent years by taking a number of the club’s promising Academy stars.
Some have suggested Man City’s drive to hoover up top young talent from across the globe might be a pre-cursor to the champions potentially being placed under a transfer embargo.
That’s just one of the many punishments that could be possibly meted out as part of the hearing into the now infamous 115 charges facing the mega rich club.
The hearing involves some of the country’s top legal minds.
Expulsion from the Premier League is another possible punishment.
The world and its wife has been having its say on the situation.
What West Ham owners think of Man City charges
In a Hammers News exclusive, we can reveal what West Ham owners think of Man City charges amid ‘secrecy’ frustration claims.
According to The Telegraph Premier League bosses are facing frustration from clubs over the “cloak of secrecy” that surrounds what’s being dubbed “sport’s trial of the century” into Man City’s 115 charges.
“City’s hearing is confidential and being held in private in front of an unnamed three-person commission in accordance with Section W of the league’s rules,” The Telegraph reports.
“Public details of the City charges have been restricted only to a basic list of the rules and seasons of each alleged breach and, while photographs have emerged of legal teams arriving at the International Dispute Resolution Centre in London, even the location of the hearing was kept under wraps.”
‘All will be revealed’
Guardiola says he thinks ‘all Premier League clubs want Man City punished’.
But while fans of Man City’s rivals join the pile on, how do the Hammers board feel about the situation?
Hammers News has spoken to the top contact inside the London Stadium about the club’s stance on the Man City charges.
The response was quite simple.
“The Man City situation is a legal matter.
“So we assume at the end all will be revealed?”
There will be no quick resolution, though, that’s for sure.
Because the hearing is expected to last around 10 weeks.
