Erik ten Hag has shed some light on when we can expect Luke Shaw back from his injury.
Manchester United Football Club have been severely hampered by injuries throughout the Erik ten Hag era so far, be it down to bad luck or something more than that…
Those problems have continued into this term. We’re yet to see Leny Yoro in competitive action, while Luke Shaw is in a similar position.
The Englishman picked up a problem in pre-season, leaving the Red Devils without a recognised left-back as Tyrell Malacia is also sidelined still.
The club have remained fairly tight-lipped on Shaw’s issue, presumably as they just want to ensure the Englishman is allowed to heal fully, without putting pressure on his return.
However, today, Ten Hag has offered an injury update on Shaw, while also confirming a potential return date for the first choice left-back.
Apparently, Shaw now isn’t too far away, with the possibility of his comeback before the October international break.
Check out what the gaffer had to say in full here:
“I think it’s probably [before the break] but I can’t say I’m 100 per cent sure,” Ten Hag said when asked directly about a Shaw return date, per ManUtd.com.
“The plan is just to be back before but as I say I can’t say this 100 per cent for sure.
“It could also be shortly after the break.”
That break comes after the Aston Villa game on October 6th, which is a little under two weeks away. This could well be the match that we see Shaw back in the game-day squad, which would be huge news.
More than likely, Shaw could be targeting the away game at Brentford as a possibility, as that would give him another fortnight to build up his fitness levels in first-team training.
Honestly, having Shaw back could be huge. Diogo Dalot has done an excellent stand-in job, though there’s nothing like having a specialist left-back starting on a regular basis, it just brings better balance and cohesion to the team.
I just hope that Shaw can now stay fit for a prolonged period of time. There comes a point when United will have to say enough is enough and they’ll have to move on from the Englishman, as availability is reliability.
