One West Ham United player has just felt the wrath of Jamie Carragher.
Jamie Carragher hasn’t held back this season when criticising West Ham this season, and recently took aim at Edson ALvarez after his sending off against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup.
One of Alvarez’s teammates was the target of Carragher’s anger this time though.
Julen Lopetegui has made an inauspicious start to life as West Ham head coach.
The Hammers have taken just five points from our opening six Premier League games, and many of our big players have failed to fire yet.
Lopetegui definitely isn’t blameless, but his players have let him down massively so far this season.
Now’s the time for every single one of the senior leaders to step up and be counted.
One player in particular hasn’t been anywhere near his best so far this season, and that’s an understatement.
Jamie Carragher absolutely rips into one West Ham player
The Hammers drew 1-1 with Brentford on Saturday.
However, the game began in disastrous fashion for West Ham, after Bryan Mbeumo scored inside the first minute.
But who was to blame for the shocking start?
Speaking to Sky Sports, Carragher absolutely ripped into Emerson Palmieri for his role in West Ham conceding so early on against Brentford.
“This is just about being alive and pace and energy.“
“West Ham don’t look alive, especially the left-back there Emerson. He’s been done on the first run initially, Ajer puts the ball in and look at Emerson, he’s got to be closer, and he’s got to be aggressive.“
“Again, they win the second ball and look how alive [Fabio] Carvalho is and listen you still need the great finish.”
Carragher is bang on the money there.
Emerson fell asleep when it mattered most, and it’s something that has been happening far too regularly recently.
Emerson Palmieri needs to step up
We all know how good the 30-year-old can be when he’s on form.
And the Hammers need the Italian to reach the levels he produced last season, if we are to enjoy a successful campaign.
Emerson has fallen back into bad habits defensively and he hasn’t been much of a threat going forward.
His old mate Lucas Paqueta hasn’t played out wide on the left this season, and that may be a contributing factor behind his poor form.
Maybe Lopetegui needs to look at that and move the Brazil international out wide on the left in order to get the best out of him and Emerson.
However, the onus really is one the former Chelsea man to up his game and prove that he’s still an important player for us.
Jamie Carragher left Emerson Palmieri nowhere to hide with his comments after the Brentford draw, and now the West Ham left-back needs to respond.
