A player who West Ham chased in the summer was in sensational form in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
West Ham United head coach Julen Lopetegui made nine new signings in the summer transfer window.
On paper, the Hammers have a much stronger squad now than what we had last year.
However, Lopetegui has been criticised for a few of his summer signings.
One thing that grates on most West Ham fans is the fact that Lopetegui failed to address the centre-forward position.
Sure, the Spaniard signed Niclas Fullkrug, but it’s hugely debatable as to whether he’s actually the man we needed for the job.
The general consensus is that Lopetegui should have gone all out to sign an explosive forward in the summer.
The perfect option was out there for us, but we were unable to sign him in the end. Now he’s done something that will be giving Lopetegui nightmares.
Player West Ham missed out on bags Champions League hat-trick
West Ham made a move to sign Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund in the summer.
The 22-year-old – dubbed to be faster than Usain Bolt over 30 meters (Goal) – remained with Dortmund in the end though.
The Bundesliga side were asking for around £42 million for Adeyemi (BVB Buzz).
If only we had signed him. He has something that we are desperately short of right now – blistering pace.
And Adeyemi was in sensational form for Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday night in the UEFA Champions League.
He scored a truly scintillating hat-trick during their incredible 7-1 thrashing of Scottish giants Celtic at Signal Iduna Park.
It goes without saying that he’s absolutely rapid, but he’s a good finisher as well and he can play out wide on the left, on the right, or through the middle.
In my opinion, West Ham should have pushed the boat out to sign Karim Adeyemi in the summer transfer window.
He would have been a much better option for us than Fullkrug, that’s for sure. And his Champions League hat-trick against Celtic proves just how talented he is.
