Jarrod Bowen was not the only West Ham player who could feel hard done to by interim England boss Lee Carsley.
West Ham have become used to seeing their star players ignored by England in recent years.
But the Jarrod Bowen snub has still been a hard pill to swallow in east London.
Despite proclamations to the contrary whenever a new man takes over the Three Lions hotseat, a “big six” bias almost always comes to the fore eventually.
With Lee Carsley the latest pretender to the throne, many Hammers fans hoped summer signings Max Kilman and Aaron Wan-Bissaka would be in with a real shout for selection.
Carsley, like all the others, declared it was a clean slate when he was handed interim control.
Kilman has been brilliant since arriving at West Ham in a £40m deal and arguably the club’s player of the season so far.
England are in desperate need of more ball-carrying central defenders. Especially left-footed ones. Kilman ticks all those boxes.
Wan-Bissaka meanwhile has been underlining the widely held belief he is comfortably the best defensive right-back in the Premier League since joining the Hammers for £15m from Man United.
England have problems at left-back with Carsley even stating he could play Cole Palmer there if needed.
Wan-Bissaka has also shown his versatility by playing at left-back for the Hammers.
The Irons trio were absolutely brilliant in West Ham’s 4-1 win over Ipswich on Saturday.

Carsley’s incredible new West Ham insult after shock Bowen snub
Yet none of them were selected by Carlsey for the October internationals against Greece and Finland.
Bowen has insisted he won’t let Carsley’s rejection affect him.
Gabby Agbonlahor took offence on Bowen’s behalf, though.
Agbonlahor tore into Carsley about the Bowen snub yesterday when naming him in his team of the week.
Now Carsley has hit West Ham with an incredible new insult after his shock Bowen snub.
It looked like the former Everton and Ireland midfielder turned England boss might have to make an embarrassing phone call last night.
Many expected Carsley would have to go cap in hand to Bowen – and perhaps Kilman too – for the October games.
That’s after Morgan Gibbs-White, Kobbie Mainoo and Ezri Konsa all pulled out of the Three Lions squad.
On top of that there are also doubts Harry Kane will be able to play in both games with tests being carried out on the Bayern striker.
Three withdrawals – and questions marks over a fourth squad member – would usually see England call-up replacements.
That would surely have seen Bowen first in line with Kilman a shout for the centre-back alternative.

Hammers stars not even needed despite withdrawals
But in a cutting new snub Carsley has elected against drafting in any replacements.
“The trio all sustained injuries for their respective clubs over the weekend and have been ruled out of the Three Lions’ UEFA Nations League fixtures against Greece and Finland,” an FA statement reads.
“All other 22 players are at St George’s Park with no further additions planned at this time.”
Hammers fans will be furious at this decision and rightly so.
Although it would have been a difficult call to make to call Bowen up after dropping him in the first place, it is an ever bigger slap in the face that Carsley is not bothered about bringing him in despite the pull-outs.
It is a strange decision from Carsley given he called Bowen up for the September matches.
Especially as West Ham’s captain did more in his limited time on the pitch than many others who started had managed.
Bowen, with four, has more goals and assists in the Premier League this season than England call-ups Noni Madueke (three), Dominic Solanke (two), Anthony Gordon (two), Jack Grealish (one), Gibbs-White (one) and Phil Foden (zero).
He clearly faces a tough task to make the England squad in the future if Carsley remains manager.
And the same goes for West Ham dup Kilman and Wan-Bissaka.
That’s a real shame for the players but also for West Ham, a club who has always prided itself on producing and providing players for England.
