Brazilian prodigy Luis Guilherme has claimed West Ham’s Goal of the Month award for September, thanks to his audacious finish for the U21s.
The accolade comes as another highlight for the 18-year-old, who made his senior debut for the Hammers last Saturday, coming on as an 86th-minute substitute in their match against Ipswich.
Guilherme’s stunning goal came during the U21s’ Premier League International Cup group stage clash against Benfica. His strike was pivotal, helping the team fight back from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw and start their cup campaign with a valuable point.
The young winger showcased incredible composure, capping off a beautifully orchestrated play. Dan Rigge set up the goal with an exquisite chipped pass that sailed over the Benfica defence. Guilherme timed his run to perfection, meeting the ball and delivering a clinical finish that left the goalkeeper with no chance.
With such a well-executed play, if there were an award for Assist of the Month, Rigge would undoubtedly be a strong contender as well.
Hopefully Guilherme will continue to get minutes for both the senior and under 21 team as he continues his Hammers education. But keen an eye out for Rigge to . . . he really is an incredible talent.
