Pablo Fornals has spoke glowingly about former West Ham United manager David Moyes.
Manuel Pellegrini actually brought Pablo Fornals to West Ham, but he played the majority of his football for the club under David Moyes.
Pablo Fornals struggled during his final year or so at West Ham, mainly because he didn’t fit into Moyes’s system whereby players weren’t allowed to express themselves in possession.
As a result, the 28-year-old was shipped out to Real Betis in the January transfer window for around £6.8 million.
Fornals was adored by the London Stadium faithful, mostly due to his love for the club and the commitment and passion that he showed when playing for us.
Meanwhile, Moyes was never the most popular figure amongst the Hammers fanbase, in spite of the unrivalled success that he brought to the club.
However, some West Ham fans might just think differently about him now.
The Spaniard has been speaking to Roshane Thomas about all things West Ham.
Fornals covered a wide range of topics during his interview with The Athletic.
And the 28-year-old chose to offer huge words of praise for his former gaffer Moyes.
Pablo said, “The manager did a beautiful speech about me in front of everyone. It’s something I will never forget. The manager didn’t want me to leave but knew I wanted to play. Although he wasn’t able to play me week in, week out, that speech made me realise how proud he was of what I’d done and the love he had for me as a person. There’s some moments where words are not needed — I started crying.“
Well, those words really make Moyes come across as a genuinely nice person.
The Scot seemed rather aloof during his time in charge of West Ham, certainly during his final year at the London Stadium.
He made a whole host of questionable decisions, and one of the fans’ biggest bones of contention was the way that he jettisoned certain players from his starting lineup.
Fornals was certainly one of those players, and it seemed like there was no apparent reason for the way that Moyes left him out from the starting XI, week in, week out.
However, the West Ham fans may have more respect for David Moyes now, after Pablo Fornals opened up today.
Maybe the Scot deserves more credit in general than he gets from the Hammers fans.
