West Ham United’s move to the London Stadium in 2016 is still very much a bone of contention amongst the fans.
The West Ham fans were promised that the move to the London Stadium from Upton Park would coincide with a new era of success, whereby we’d be able to compete financially with the biggest clubs in Europe.
Whilst the success came in the end – the Europa Conference League trophy in 2023, and competing financially with Europe’s superpowers is not a problem, many fans are still not satisfied with our Stratford home.
Amazingly, the London Stadium costs taxpayers £500k for every game that West Ham play there.
The atmosphere in general is awful – one of the worst in the Premier League in fact.
One of the biggest issues that the Hammers fans had with the club’s move to the London Stadium was the fact that the club no longer owned our own ground.
That is still the case, and I’m hoping that it will change in the future, but for now we just have to take small victories when we can.
And some really good news has just come to light that certainly fits into that category…
London Stadium change West Ham fans have been crying out for
There could be big change on the horizon in our Stratford home.
It’s about time that some decent ideas were put forward regarding ways to improve the match going experience for fans.
According to Claret and Hugh, West Ham are set to explore implementing ‘dedicated singing sections’ at the London Stadium.
Other clubs have done the same at their stadiums in recent years to great effect, including the likes of Arsenal and Crystal Palace.
The bottom line as far as I’m concerned is that the atmosphere needs to improve at West Ham’s London Stadium, one way or another.
However we get there is actually irrelevant as far as I’m concerned, but change is definitely required.
Just look at how Arsenal have turned things around at The Emirates. We really need to look at them as an example of how to go about doing things properly in my opinion.
Hopefully the proposed new initiative to add dedicated singing sections at the London Stadium gets off the ground.
Because West Ham desperately need to turn our home stadium into a fortress, and there’s no way we will be able to do that with the current atmosphere that we’re generating on match-days.
