Julen Lopetegui brought Crysencio Summerville to West Ham United from Leeds United in the summer transfer window.
Crysencio Summerville was electric for Leeds last season, and it seemed like West Ham had got a real steal by signing him for just £20 million in the summer.
However, to say that the 22-year-old has been eased into action at the London Stadium by Julen Lopetegui has been an understatement to say the least.
The Hammers head coach went about integrating Summerville into the starting XI in completely the wrong way, as far as I’m concerned.
The Dutch attacker will be desperate for more starts, so that he can show Lopetegui what he’s truly capable of.
And a promise he was made back in the summer is now looking like it lacked any kind of substance whatsoever.
Crysencio Summerville should be fuming with Julen Lopetegui
The Dutchman is still yet to produce his best stuff for the Hammers.
But in fairness to him, he hasn’t been given ample opportunities to prove himself.
Summerville has been given just 305 minutes of action across eight appearances in all competitions. He really should have been given more starts in my opinion, especially considering the woeful form of Lucas Paqueta this season.
According to a report from The Athletic, Summerville opted to join West Ham over other clubs in the summer in order to secure more regular playing time.
So it will be very interesting to see over the next few weeks and months whether Lopetegui stays true to his word.
Crysencio Summerville is an explosive left winger, and he desperately needs to play regularly for West Ham in order to find a rhythm.
It’s almost impossible for him right now to get up a head of steam, with the odd 20 minute cameo appearance here and there.
I would like Lopetegui to start the former Leeds man against Tottenham tomorrow, but I just can’t see it happening unfortunately.
And if he doesn’t start the game, I think Summerville would then have every right to start banging on the Spaniard’s door.
