Julen Lopetegui brought Carlos Soler to West Ham United on transfer deadline day in the summer transfer window.
The Spaniard joined us on a straight loan, and he has already admitted that he doesn’t even know if he will be here next season.
Carlos Soler is still yet to start a Premier League game for West Ham, so we haven’t seen the best of the 27-year-old.
The PSG owned star is a superb central midfielder, with exceptional technical ability, so I have no doubts that he will make a huge difference for us when he’s fully up to speed.
Julen Lopetegui will surely start him against Manchester United next weekend – he deserves his chance now.
However, it must be so hard for him to come into a team that quite simply isn’t functioning at the moment.
The Hammers have no clear identity right now, and that has to change very quickly indeed.
Carlos Soler hints West Ham don’t have concrete vision under Julen Lopetegui
Lopetegui and his players just seem to be lost right now.
Nobody seems to know what their exact job is, and that is being highlighted by the sheer number of terrible performances the team have put in this season.
When speaking to Marca, Soler discussed his start to life at the London Stadium.
And the Spaniard made an incredibly worrying admission if you ask me.
He said, “We haven’t talked about objectives. It’s a very new and long-term project. It’s a bit abstract because in football you have to think a lot about the present, get results and play well.“
Now, Soler may not have meant it, but to suggest that the long-term vision is ‘abstract’ doesn’t read well at all.
In the early days of a manager’s tenure, it’s ok if the performances and results aren’t quite where they should be, but there has to be a clear vision.
And the lack of a vision and a clear footballing identity is what is bothering the West Ham fans most right now.
It would be great if we could see the system that Julen Lopetegui is trying to implement at West Ham, or at least signs of what he’s trying to do.
If that doesn’t become clear over the next three games, the Spaniard will find himself under real pressure.
