Crysencio Summerville is someone many West Ham fans have been eager to see more of since his £25m move from Leeds United.
His Hammers career has so far been limited to mostly fleeting cameos, but he has impressed on occasion with many clamouring for his inclusion on West Ham’s left flank before Mohammed Kudus’s uplift in form.
Ironically, the red card the Ghanaian picked up against Tottenham for violent conduct means that he’ll miss at least three games, which will gift Summerville his chance.
The Dutch winger was introduced to the game against Spurs in the 62nd minute, but by that time, the fixture had ceased to be a contest with the home side 4-1 up. That might go some way to explaining his muted performance, which would not have been helped by West Ham going down to 10 men.
However, Summerville is an undoubtedly skilful player who justifiably won Player of the Season last year in the Championship. He needs to grasp the opportunity with both hands and demonstrate why the Hammers paid so much for a player who is capable of getting the fans out of their seats.
The pressure is on, though. Kudus was the Irons’ best player until his sending off at the weekend and scored in back-to-back games. Therefore, Summerville will need some end product to add to his tricks and flicks, but I, for one, am looking forward to seeing it.
