Things just keep getting worse and worse for Julen Lopetegui at West Ham United.
Julen Lopetegui is under intense pressure in his role as West Ham manager right now, but it has been suggested that he will be given plenty of time to turn things around.
The Hammers have taken just eight points from our opening eight Premier League games, and we’re currently sitting in 15th spot in the Premier League table.
There’s a lot of football still to be played, obviously.
However, what’s making the scrutiny on Lopetegui more intensified is the fact that he brought so many top-class players to the London Stadium in the summer.
Many Hammers fans expected big improvements after David Moyes was moved on.
The marginal gains just haven’t happened yet though, and now Lopetegui and the club are even being trolled by the foreign press!
Newspaper troll for West Ham regarding Julen Lopetegui’s best signing
The Hammers boss brought in nine new players in the summer.
The Spaniard splashed out around £125 million on those players.
However, the loan deal for Jean-Clair Todibo will be made permanent next summer for £35 million, whilst it remains to be seen whether or not Carlos Soler will remain at the London Stadium.
Turin based newspaper Tutto Juve have trolled the Hammers for the signing of Todibo in the summer, because it enabled Juventus to go out and sign Pierre Kalulu instead.
The Italian media outlet wrote today the following:
“Finally, we must thank West Ham who insisted on Todibo, allowing Juventus to save €30m and invest 2/3 of it on the French player, like him.”
The Hammers beat Juve to the signing of the 24-year-old Frenchman after Tim Steidten flew out to Nice to hijack the Italian giant’s deal for him at the 11th hour.
Todibo was widely regarded to be one of the Hammers’ very best summer signings, if not the best.
However, he has made a slow start to life at the London Stadium, whilst Kalulu has flourished with Juventus.
I would suggest that the troll from Tutto Juve is nothing more than sour grapes. I have no doubts that Todibo will go on to be a better player than Kalulu over the next decade.
And the signing of the Frenchman should not be used as yet another stick to beat West Ham head coach Julen Lopetegui with.
