It’s no secret that Julen Lopetegui is under immense pressure in his role as West Ham United head coach right now.
Julen Lopetegui arrived at the London Stadium to replace David Moyes in charge of West Ham officially on July 1st.
However, things haven’t gone well for the Spaniard at all so far, although it has been suggested that he will be given time to prove himself by the board.
In fact, it is claimed that the Hammers owners are prepared to give Lopetegui until the new year before a decision is made on his future.
That’s fair enough if you ask me.
I think the key for Lopetegui over the next few games will be for him to show everyone that he is different to Moyes.
He needs to prove that he has a clear footballing philosophy that he’s trying to implement, and we desperately need to see some positive signs asap.
A few old fashioned wins would do him the world of good as well…
Julen Lopetegui must do what West Ham haven’t done in 18 years
Will the walls closing in on the Spaniard, he will need to make a big statement of intent sooner rather than later.
He absolutely cannot afford to keep doing the same things, making the same mistakes, and expecting different results.
A big winning run will be needed before the turn of the year.
The last time West Ham won five Premier League games in a row? 2006, when Alan Pardew was in charge.
In 2021 under David Moyes, we won four Premier League games in a row before Wolves put a stop to that run.
Now Lopetegui may have to do the same.
West Ham have a nightmarish run of fixtures on the horizon, with games against Manchester United, Newcastle and Arsenal, as well as clashes with Everton and Nottingham Forest all to come before the end of next month.
It could be argued we’ll do well to get more than five points from those five matches.
However, once those games are out the way, we have a five-game run of very winnable matches. Could we achieve a five-game winning run in the Premier League for the first time since 2006?
Lopetegui may well need it…
Winning run possible for West Ham
Considering the recent claims that the Spaniard has until the new year to prove himself, our run of games from December 3rd to December 26th will be vitally important.
The Hammers face matches against Leicester away, Wolves at home, Bournemouth away, Brighton at home and Southampton away.
Now, as the old cliche goes, there are no easy games in the Premier League, but that five-match run is about as easy as you’re going to get.
Bournemouth away and Brighton at home will be difficult, but they’re definitely winnable games.
Julen Lopetegui needs to make a big statement in charge of West Ham, and if we struggle to pick up many points over the next month, the Spaniard will probably be sent packing unless he oversees a big winning run in December.
There are plenty of fans and pundits alike who think the 58-year-old was the wrong appointment in the first place.
And to prove them wrong, he may well have to oversee an incredibly rare feat – one that we haven’t seen in East London since 2006!
