West Ham United co-owner David Sullivan may well have performed a real masterstroke back in the summer.
David Sullivan is far from a popular figure amongst the West Ham fans, but I have to say that I think he deserves more credit than he gets.
The 75-year-old brought Julen Lopetegui in to the London Stadium to replace David Moyes in the summer, and proceeded to back him to the tune of well over £150 million on nine new players.
And the Hammers co-owner is allegedly prepared to give Lopetegui plenty more time to prove himself.
If the fans are patient, and support Lopetegui to the hilt, the Spaniard could still yet succeed at the London Stadium.
However, whatever happens, nobody can accuse Sullivan of not backing the West Ham head coach.
He provided him with a really impressive transfer kitty, and one deal he oversaw in particular now looks like being a real winner.
David Sullivan performed summer masterstroke at West Ham
The Hammers supremo has been criticised for overseeing numerous poor deals during his time in charge of the club.
We’ve made some very questionable signings and sales during Sullivan’s tenure.
However, it seems like this time, he’s got one deal absolutely spot on.
Nayef Aguerd left the Hammers to join Real Sociedad in the summer.
When the Morocco international left the London Stadium in the summer, he sent a bizarre message to the West Ham fans – one that suggested he thought he had left the club permanently.
However, that wasn’t the case. The deal was just a ‘dry loan’ – one that the Hammers fans didn’t understand one little bit at the time.
Now though, it looks like Sullivan may well have secured West Ham a stunning piece of business.
That’s because are VIP Deportivo claiming that Aguerd has been a huge hit with Real Sociedad.
The Morocco international has ‘impressed everyone with his excellent performances’ so far, and has won over the fans, becoming one of the club’s ‘most beloved players’.
And as a result, the 28-year-old’s value has sky rocketed over the past few months.
So the Hammers could end up getting a lot more money for Aguerd in 2025, than we would have, had Sullivan included a purchase option in his loan deal back in the summer.
Now if that does end up being the case, it will prove to be an absolute masterclass from West Ham co-owner David Sullivan.
And it shows that sometimes, successful people in business like Sullivan know exactly what they’re doing!
