The West Ham United fans had great hope for Niclas Fullkrug when he joined us in the summer transfer window.
West Ham pursued Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran for weeks, but settled on a deal for Niclas Fullkrug in the end after a move for the Colombia international proved to be too expensive.
Fullkrug refreshingly admitted today that his start with West Ham has been ‘very bad’, and rightly so – he’s been nowhere near the levels required since moving to the London Stadium.
The 31-year-old’s injury that he picked up whist on international duty with Germany back in September certainly didn’t help him whatsoever.
That said, even when he was supposedly ‘fit’, he didn’t exactly look up to speed did he?
Hopefully when he’s back from his injury, he will prove everyone wrong.
However, Fullkrug hasn’t exactly made things easy on himself…
Bizarre move from West Ham striker Niclas Fullkrug
The German is currently out in his homeland trying to fix the problems he currently has with his calf by getting injections administered (The Sun).
And whilst in Germany, Fullkrug has been speaking to reporters about his poor start to life at West Ham.
Fullkrug sat down to speak with DeichStube, and it was put to him that he has a lot of pressure on his shoulders due to the €27 million (£22.5 million) fee that West Ham paid for him.
The 31-year-old’s response was really surprising.
“Well, I think it was a few more (than €27m). But no, in the end that doesn’t affect me,” he said.
“It’s just the market that is. The sum is of course gigantic. It is of course also a gigantic appreciation from the club, from Tim, who you also know, from Tim Steidten. Which was of course one or the decisive reason why I ended up dealing with West Ham.”
That is a really strange move from the former Borussia Dortmund man if you ask me.
His comments on the fee that West Ham paid for him in the summer will serve him no purpose whatsoever.
If anything, they will just pile even more pressure on him – something that he definitely doesn’t need right now.
I really hope that Niclas Fullkrug returns from injury and proves a lot of West Ham fans wrong.
I’m one of those who are doubting him right now, and his comments on his price-tag have just cranked up the heat on him a little bit more.
Silly from the German in my opinion.
