A post from a well-connected West Ham board insider paints a sorry picture of the club as something of a circus with turmoil behind the scenes.
As tensions rise within West Ham, fans are left wondering what’s really going on at the London Stadium.
There is growing uncertainty surrounding West Ham.
Not least surrounding the future of head coach Julen Lopetegui following the damaging thrashing at Spurs.
Some worryingly weak performances and collapses, poor results as well as a lack of discipline, resilience and identity have raised red flags so far under the Spaniard.
With the arrival of Tim Steidten as technical director, the Hammers had started to resemble a well-run, efficient operation.
But recent events are beginning to suggest the West Ham circus is back in town.
The week started with Lopetegui urging West Ham’s owners to judge him in May amid renewed speculation he could be sacked following the Tottenham defeat.
Less than 24 hours later news emerged from a journalist in Germany that the owners have put ex West Ham assistant coach Edin Terzic on standby to replace Lopetegui.
Then came the dreaded ‘vote of confidence’ from sources close to majority owner David Sullivan.
It was also claimed that Steidten himself is under pressure over some of his transfer dealings.
West Ham insider’s revealing post exposes chaotic situation
And reporter Alex Crook claimed overnight that there is unrest in the boardroom and dressing room where many are ‘unconvinced’ by the manager.
Now a West Ham board insider’s revealing X post exposes the chaotic situation at the club.
Shared on the social media platform X, the revealing post hints at internal chaos that could have major implications for the future of the Hammers and Lopetegui.
News that West Ham had put Edin Terzic on standby came very much out of the blue.
And where it came from suggests all is not well behind the scenes at the club.
According to Sport Bild, Terzic was actually approached by West Ham before Lopetegui in the summer, but he rejected the chance to replace David Moyes.
He made a name for himself at Dortmund, leading them to the Champions League final last season with current West Ham striker Niclas Fullkrug up front.
Terzic joined the Hammers alongside Slaven Bilic in 2015 having worked with him at Besiktas.
The 41-year-old was a key component of the management team and chief tactician as West Ham enjoyed one their best ever Premier League seasons as they said goodbye to Upton Park.
West Ham circus back in town?
The Terzic news came from top Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.
Plettenberg is one of the top sources for football news in Germany. Think of him as a German David Ornstein.
He claimed ‘Terzic could get the call from West Ham soon’.
And Plettenberg also made it clear Terzic is open to a new challenge.
So where has this information suddenly come from West Ham fans – and Lopetegui – might wonder?
Hammers board insider Sean Whetstone counts Sullivan and Karren Brady among his contacts at the club.
Whetstone has taken to social media with a not-so-cryptic X post.
In it he suggests Steidten is the man behind the leaking of the Terzic news to Plettenberg.
Given the pressure on Lopetegui and the timing of the news emerging, it’s easy to see the connection between the German triangle.
“I wonder who Plettenberg’s source is,” Whetstone said alongside a picture of Steidten rather comically edited to blank out his eyes.
The way things ended between Moyes and Steidten was unsavoury and messy.
Moyes banned Steidten from being around the first team towards the end of last season.
Word is Steidten was not massively in favour of appointing Lopetegui and wanted to go in a different direction in the summer.
Now we are perhaps seeing exactly what that direction was.
In the meantime, though, it suggests West Ham are a club in turmoil behind the scenes.
Just when it looked like the Hammers had started to become an efficient operation all pulling in the same direction.
