West Ham United beat Manchester United 2-1 in the Premier League at the London Stadium on Sunday.
Julen Lopetegui was visibly delighted after West Ham recorded a vital three Premier League points at the London Stadium against Manchester United.
The Spaniard actually remained out on the pitch after the final whistle, rather than being the first man down the tunnel like he has in every other game.
With some really tough games on the horizon, the importance of the win against Man United cannot be underestimated.
Lopetegui knew how big that one was, and the Hammers head coach will now be far more positive regarding what lies ahead.
However, there are still some concerns for Lopetegui regarding some of his players’ poor form, with the likes of Lucas Paqueta and Carlos Soler nowhere near the levels required right now.
And there are some big issues off the pitch as well it seems.
Real West Ham fans will be disgusted as London Stadium video emerges
The win against Man United was a vital one for the Hammers.
There were a lot of good things to take positives from in the second-half, but the polar opposite was the case during the first 45 minutes.
And one thing happened midway through the first-half that genuinely made my blood boil.
Check out the following video from The 44 X account from the five second mark.
I honestly couldn’t believe my ears when I heard ‘oohs and aahs’ and a smattering of applause from the home end after Casemiro nut-megged Hammers left-back Emerson Palmieri.
Honestly, it was disgusting in my opinion. No wonder the London Stadium isn’t a fortress…
That’s a real sign of how things have changed if I’ve ever seen one.
Can you imagine that happening at Upton Park?
There’s one of two explanations here. Either there were Manchester United fans in the home end, or there were West Ham fans genuinely applauding a player from the opposing team.
Both options are unacceptable if you ask me. The tribalism that made English football so great seems to have disappeared from the game all together.
Sometimes I just feel like we’re losing the real West Ham. In fact, if we’re all being honest with ourselves, we lost the very fabric of the club a long time ago.
West Ham moving to the London Stadium from Upton Park clearly didn’t help, but I think it’s the way football is going in general in fairness.
There are more ‘customers’ than ‘fans’ now, and that’s a real shame in my view.
