Learning fast and impressing local supporters is a pretty good accomplishment for any West Ham youngster. Especially considering that the last loan spell did not work out with just three appearances at West Bromwich Albion – this season’s Huddersfield Town season-long deal is paying dividends for both the player and hopefully, West Ham in future.
Whilst it is difficult to ignore the hype which is in the background regarding Callum Marshall, it seems he is winning admirers ‘up north’ during his spell with the Terriers. Yorkshirepost.co.uk report that the teenager has indeed been named as a ‘supporters dream’ by his manager Michael Duff. “He’s infectious. He’s a great kid. He’s on a lot of money for a young lad but you wouldn’t know whether he was on £2 a week or £20,000. It’s not £20,000-a-week by the way.”
“He is a supporter’s dream. He comes off the pitch and his lungs are coming out of his mouth and that’s what they want.”
100% attitude then shown by the Northern Ireland International. Learning from mistakes and criticism too, by the sound of it: Duff again:” He looks like he loves his job. And he’s got qualities, [he’s] at a Premier League club.
“The fact that he took it [criticism]on Tuesday [against Wrexham], he didn’t like it but he took it, we sat him down with it. [Next game] His hold up play was better. When we play with a front two, they have to be the front of the team. Today, he held it up. He probably deserved a goal.”
How much we need him! Huddersfield are currently lying seventh in the third tier so whilst it is good to hear of Marshall’s progress, he still has a long way to go and a lot to learn.
