Fresh from scoring for Fulham upon his first return to Goodison Park – in the Premier League – Alex Iwobi has now made another announcement on his career and work away from football.
Alex Iwobi has released his second single since leaving Everton for Fulham after making history by becoming the first Premier League player to release music while still operating in the top-fight. The midfielder left Goodison Park last summer after spending four years on Merseyside – making 140 appearances for the Blues.
After coming through the Arsenal academy, Iwobi, 28, is back in London, where he grew up, pursuing his passion for music. On his debut single, ‘Don’t Shoot’, Iwobi collaborated with former Middlesbrough striker Chuba Akpom, who now plays for Ajax, and ex-England youth international Medy Elito.
They go by the rap names Scoli and Don EE respectively. Iwobi uses the moniker ’17’, his shirt number, but is public about his work and the midfielder still puts his name and face to the singles.

“Music has always been a passion of mine and a way for me to express myself away from football; music is a great tool, and I’ve always used that as a productive way to share how I feel,” Iwobi said. “Historically, no Premier League player has brought out music with their name and face attached to it [a masked rapper called Dide claims to play in the top-flight], but I like to be different and make a difference.”
“Growing up in an area of London that is challenging for some people – [Iwobi grew up in Newham] – I know how hard it can be, and I’m grateful to have a platform to try and make a difference. Alongside the work we do in the community, I hope that my music is another way of proving that young people do not have to feel they have to fit in just one box. I want them to be encouraged to achieve their dreams and to put their focus into positive things.
“Creating music doesn’t take anything away from my football; it helps me switch off. I will always work hard and try to improve in my sport, but this is a good use of my spare time.”
