Tottenham academy kid Jamie Donley is currently out on loan at Leyton Orient
The recruitment, development and polishing of the youngsters are already underway at Tottenham Hotspur.
Daniel Levy and Johan Lange along with head coach Ange Postecoglou are assembling a project that can have a long-lasting impact at the Hotspur Way. While reinforcing the first-team squad to make it capable enough to fight and win trophies consistently, the club are also doing their best to nurture academy talents.
The north London club decided to send some academy products out on loan during the summer transfer window. One of those to have gone out on loan is Jamie Donley.
Jamie Donley is rated as one of the best young talents currently in the Tottenham Hotspur academy. The 19-year-old was one of the standout performers across Premier League 2 last season. After excelling for the Under-21s in the Premier League 2, Spurs chiefs felt it was the right time to send him away to gain regular minutes and experience in men’s football.
As a result, Donley joined Football League One side Leyton Orient on a season-loan loan in August. However, the creative forward has not had the kind of impact he’d expected at Leyton Orient, partly because of EFL’s rules and regulations.
The Englishman has started only five league games so far this season, failing to produce a goal or an assist for the League One outfit. In fact, the Spurs talent has not even made the matchday squads for Leyton’s last two league fixtures against Wycombe Wanderers and Rotherham United, thereby, hampering his progress.
According to a report from Football London, Leyton have crossed the limit for the number of loan players allowed in the squad, leading to Donley dropping out of the last two matchday squads. The O’s presently have six players on loan while the EFL only allows five to be named in the matchday squad, and the Spurs man has been the fall guy.
If the situation doesn’t change under Richie Wellens at the Gaughan Group Stadium, Spurs certainly have to consider recalling Donley in January and loaning him to another EFL club for the second half of the campaign.

Donley may find himself the unfortunate guy to miss out on the games against Wycombe and Rotherham due to EFL’s rules on loan players, but the fact of the matter is he has to work a lot harder on training pitches and prove himself. The attacking midfielder has to try getting back into Wellens’ squad as quickly as possible if he’s to make the Leyton loan move a successful one.
