Four of Bayern Munich’s top five earners are staring down the barrel of expiring contracts next summer. That doesn’t include the major extension for Jamal Musiala or the complicated transfer saga of Alphonso Davies.
Harry Kane has three years remaining on his deal, the club seems intent on re-signing Joshua Kimmich and Leroy Sané at reduced wages, and Thomas Müller is leaning toward retirement. Where does that leave Bayern’s captain, Manuel Neuer?
Check out this excerpt from a recent Bild report (via @iMiaSanMia):
Bayern had initially wanted to clarify Manuel Neuer’s future before the end of this year. But now the club could give it more time in order to see the developments in the coming months before making a final decision.
Neuer currently makes €21M a year, which is a steep price for a 38-year-old keeper who no longer possesses game changing abilities. At a lowly 57%, Neuer’s save percentage this season is by far the worst of his career.
Neuer has won every trophy at Bayern and deserves a warm farewell but if Max Eberl is serious about reducing the wage bill by 25%, then slashing €10M off the starting goalkeeper’s salary is an easy place to start.
