Despite clearly needing major surgery in key areas West Ham apparently have no money to spend in January.
West Ham’s woeful midfield and striker options mean they are a team destined to finish bottom half at best.
That’s laughable given Tim Steidten and Julen Lopetegui were handed £155m in the summer.
The Hammers are the fifth biggest spenders in the Premier League in the last two years.
But they’ll be playing in the Championship if their sorry performances and form continue.
It is patently clear for all to see that West Ham desperately needed and still need a young, dynamic striker and something similar in midfield.
In an ideal world the Hammers need two of each of that description. But let’s not be too greedy.
Word from West Ham’s top brass already, though, is that the cupboards are bare and the well has run dry.
Players must be sold in order to buy due to PSR is the official line.
No problem.
Because shambolic West Ham must sell out of depth liability Edson Alvarez on January 1st.
Shambolic West Ham must sell out of depth liability Alvarez
Last weekend ‘immobile’ Alvarez was singled out as West Ham’s biggest problem by pundits on Match of the Day.
It was a hard watch as they brutally picked apart his game, concluding that the Mexican simply isn’t up to the pace of other Premier League midfielders.
Well it showed against Forest yet again.
Another awful, heavy-legged display where he and midfield partner were completely dominated by Ryan Yates. Let that sink in.
Alvarez was the best thing since sliced bread when he first arrived. Hammers fans went far too soon on that one in their desperation to prove they’d moved on from Declan Rice.
Another sending off after he did something similarly unbelievable, unforgivable and unnecessary at Liverpool in the cup.
He picked up two yellows for his making it five yellows and two reds in 11 appearances for the Irons this season.
Need to raise funds for signings then look no further than Alvarez
Alvarez has been linked with several clubs since arriving at West Ham. Not once has he affirmed his future is with the Hammers.
Instead Alvarez has talked up a Hammers departure each and every time.
West Ham were recently linked with Ruben Loftus-Cheek in a swap deal with Milan involving Alvarez.
That got the juices flowing among fans who crave a more powerful box-to-box presence in the side.
Jobe Bellingham has also been linked with a move to West Ham today.
Either would be better than Alvarez and offer so much more energy in the heart of the pitch.
If West Ham are looking to raise funds, there’s no better place to start than ‘El Machin’.
His actions on and off the pitch suggest he doesn’t want to be here.
So get him on the transfer list and sold the minute the window opens on January 1st.
And Steidten needs to have a younger, more athletic and physically capable replacement ready to come in.
Or else what is the German doing here?
