West Ham United head coach Julen Lopetegui is a man under real pressure right now.
Julen Lopetegui has really struggled to oversee any kind of progress at all at West Ham, since he replaced David Moyes at the London Stadium.
Jaco Steinberg actually suggested on Saturday that a club that was run properly would already be sounding out replacements for the Spaniard.
The Hammers head coach looks like a dear in the headlights right now. He’s making bad decision after bad decision, and it looks like it will be a very long season if he remains at the helm.
The West Ham owners may well have to make a bold call soon.
And it seems like David Sullivan and co already have a contingency plan in place.
Julen Lopetegui close to sack at West Ham
The Spaniard has been terrible in his role as Hammers boss, since taking over at the London Stadium.
All new managers deserve time to prove themselves, and to bed in their ideas.
However, the main problem with the Spaniard is that nobody has any clue what he’s actually trying to do – I’m not sure even he knows!
His team lack any kind of footballing identity, and the players actually seem lost out on the pitch.
Now it has been claimed that Lopetegui’s days in East London could be numbered.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Lopetegui is now on the brink of getting sacked, and the Hammers owners are lining up Edin Terzic to replace him.
Terzic, 42, was actually heavily linked with replacing David Moyes, before Lopetegui was handed the job in the end.
And now the door is wide open for the Hammers to appoint the former Borussia Dortmund boss, after he admitted that he wants to manage in the Premier League.
He’s also available as a free agent for what it’s worth!
He’s a hugely exciting young manager who has already proven he has the ability to command the respect of a dressing room filled with big egos, whilst implementing an attractive style of football out on the pitch.
He nearly won the Bundesliga title in the 2022/23 season, and reached the Champions League final last term with Borussia Dortmund.
If Julen Lopetegui is sacked, which I think could well happen if we lose to Everton, Edin Terzic would be a fine appointment for West Ham in my eyes.
