West Ham United majority shareholder David Sullivan may well have a big decision to make soon regarding Julen Lopetegui.
West Ham lost to Nottingham Forest 3-0 at the City Ground in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, and David Sullivan is being urged by many fans to get rid of Julen Lopetegui.
The Hammers co-owner appointed Lopetegui four months ago, against the wishes of most West Ham fans.
And we have all been proven right as things stand, with the Hammers head coach having struggled to oversee any kind of progress at the London Stadium.
The Spaniard made some truly awful decisions during our defeat to Forest on Saturday, namely taking Crysencio Summerville off after his heroics against Manchester United last weekend.
The game against Everton on Saturday is now a must-win. I would even go as far as to say that Lopetegui needs a really good performance from his players against the Toffees, as well as the three points.
He is on very thin ice right now, and to make matters worse for him, one of Sullivan’s trusted allies has just sent a very strong message to the Hammers supremo…
David Sullivan ally breaks rank, lays down gauntlet to West Ham
The Hammers co-owner may well have a very big decision to make soon.
Things have been terrible for West Ham this season on the whole, aside from our three Premier League wins.
And now one of Sullivan’s closest allies has sent him a very strong message, suggesting that a potential managerial change could well be needed already.
Jacob Steinberg, a journalist for the Guardian and a close ally of Sullivan, took to his X account on Saturday evening.
And he very much laid down the gauntlet to the Hammers co-owner…
I have to say, I really do agree with Steinberg here.
Whilst it would be highly unusual for David Sullivan to sack a manager so soon into his tenure at the club, Julen Lopetegui may well already be at risk of the sack.
If the Hammers fail to beat Everton, I genuinely believe that the Spaniard will be out the door at the London Stadium.
There are plenty of top-class free agent managers out there and available to Sullivan after all, including the likes of Max Allegri, Maurizio Sarri and Xavi.
I would like to think that David Sullivan is being proactive now and sounding out potential replacements for Julen Lopetegui at West Ham.
The game against Everton next weekend will be crucial. However, the problem I’m envisaging is that a win would only delay the inevitable, with tough games to come against Newcastle and Arsenal straight after the international break.
