Frank Lampard ’emerges as candidate’ for manager’s job at major European club after being ‘recommended by former Everton colleagues’

Frank Lampard has been out of work since May last year when he left his role as caretaker manager at Chelsea.

But the former Chelsea, Everton and Derby County boss could soon be set for a return to the dugout.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Lampard has emerged as a candidate to replace Ivan Juric at Roma.

Juric is still in charge at the Stadio Olimpico but his position is said to be very vulnerable following a fifth defeat of the season on Sunday, when Roma lost 3-2 at Verona.

The Friedkin Group, led by Dan Friedkin, have reportedly already started sounding out possible replacements.

Paulo Sousa has been cited as the leading candidate, while Roberto Mancini and Claudio Ranieri are also realistic options.

Lampard is apparently on that list too, having been recommended by some of his former colleagues from his Everton days.

Everton sacked Lampard in January 2023 after he had been in charge at Goodison Park for just under 12 months.

The Friedkin Group have many close contacts at Everton, having recently agreed a deal to buy the Merseyside club.

It is suggested that, although he eventually lost his job, many key individuals at Goodison Park still hold Lampard in high regard.

Businessman Dan Friedkin currently owns Roma and recently agreed a deal to buy Everton

Roma currently sit 11th in the Serie A table, having finished sixth last season.

They have been champions of Italy three times and have reached four major European finals in their history – including the 2022 Europa Conference League final, which they won by beating Feyenoord.
