Bayern Munich loanees saw a lot of cup action this week — including two of them facing their parent club on Wednesday against Bayern. See who survived to see another round of their cup competitions, who had to bow out, and what else the loanees were up to this week.
FC Bayern Munich
There are nine players on loan from the first team.
Germany – Bundesliga
There are five players on loan in the German Bundesliga: Alexander Nübel, Franz Krätzig, Paul Wanner, and Armando Sieb.
Alexander Nübel – VfB Stuttgart
Nübel got a well-deserved break when he was on the bench for Stuttgart’s Pokal match against 2.Budesliga side 1.FC Kaiserslautern. Stuttgart won 2-1 to advance to advance to the round of 16.
He was back in between the posts for their match at Leverkusen. He helped his parent club by holding the reigning champion to a shutout and forcing a draw. Nübel had five saves in the shutout.
Franz Krätzig – VfB Stuttgart
Krätzig stared against Kaiserslautern in the Pokal. He played 59 minutes and completed 90% of his passes, but could get a shot off, nor create a chance for his team to shoot. He helped on defense with a clearance and three recoveries.
Krätzig was on the bench for the Bundesliga match against Leverkusen, but did not enter the match.
Stuttgart will host Atalanta on Wednesday in Champions League action. They will also host Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday.
Paul Wanner – 1.FC Heidenheim
Wanner started Heidenheim’s Pokal match away to Hertha BSC on the bench. He came just one minute after former Bayern player and Loan Works alumni, Michael Cuissance, put Hertha up 2-0 in the 75th minute. His teammate, Stefan Schlimmer, scored in the 89th minute to make it nervy for the home team. Wanner thought that he had a late equalizer, deep into stoppage time, but it was taken away on a controversial call. Although there is no VAR available until later in the tournament, the officials deemed that the previous goal-scorer, Schlimmer, had fouled a Berlin player in the build up to the goal. This was the second time in two years that Wanner had a goal disallowed in that stadium — I was there last season when VAR disallowed a goal as he was a step offsides. Heidenheim fell 2-1 and crash out of this season’s Pokal.
Heidenheim was back in league action on Saturday when they traveled even further north to face Holstein Kiel. Wanner started and played 85 minutes. He had one shot, which was on target, but saved. He also had a created chance and was credited with a big chance missed. Unfortunately, no one else was able to get on the board either and Heidenheim fell again — this time 1-0.
Heidenheim will travel to Edinburgh to face Hearts in the Conference League on Thursday. After three straight matches away, they will return home to face Wolfsburg in league play on Sunday.
Armando Sieb – 1. FSV Mainz 05
Sieb started against his parent club when Mainz hosted Bayern in the Pokal on Wednesday. He had two shots — one on goal from well outside the box and one blocked from inside the box — created a shot opportunity for his teammates, and only misplayed two passes. As we know, these contributions were not enough to earn a result from Bayern.
Sieb started on the bench for Mainz’ visit to Freiburg in league play on Sunday. He entered the scoreless match at halftime. He had three shots — two blocked and one that just missed wide right. He was unable to create any chances to shoot in his 20 touches. Mainz and Freiburg split the points in a scoreless draw.
Gabriel Vidović– 1. FSV Mainz 05
After getting very little playing time this season, Vidović also got the start against Bayern in the Pokal match. He was not able to contribute even as much as Sieb did. He only had 15 touches, no shot attempts, and only completed three of five passes. He was subbed out at halftime and watched his parent club win 4-0.
Vidović was not on the matchday squad for the league match against Freiburg.
Mainz will host Dortmund on Saturday.
Spain – LaLiga
Bryan Zaragoza is the only player on loan to Spain’s LaLiga.
Bryan Zaragoza – CA Osasuna
Zaragoza started for Osasuna against Real Valladolid and played 85 minutes. His most outstanding stat is his six chances created — putting him at 1.01 expected assists — but no one was able to finish the job for him. He had three shots of his own — one on goal, one missed wide, and one blocked. The only goal in this game came by Osasuna — a penalty in 19th minute — to give them a 1-0 home win.
Osasuna will travel to face Chiclana in the Copa del Rey on Tuesday before returning to league play against Real Madrid on the road on Saturday.
Austria – Bundesliga
Lovro Zvonarek is the only player from the first team on loan to the Austrian Bundesliga.
Lovro Zvonarek – Sturm Graz
Sturm Graz hosted BW Linz in the 3rd Round of the Austrian Cup. Zvonarek started and opened the scoring with a goal in the 24th minute. Each team traded goals after, but Graz won 2-1 to advance to the next round.
Zvonarek was on the bench until the 65th minute of the top of the table clash against Rapid Wien. He had a shot blocked, created a chance for his teammates to shoot, and completed 86% of his passes. Although he did not directly affect the score, he was on the field to see his team score a potential winner only for it to be cancelled out by a late equalizer from the penalty spot. The match ended 1-1 and Sturm kept its three point lead over Rapid.
Sturm Graz will be on the road twice this week. They will travel to Germany to face BVB Dortmund on Tuesday in the Champions League and then to Hartberg in their return to league play.
Germany – 2. Bundesliga
Maurice Krattenmacher is the only player from the first team on loan to the 2. Bundesliga
Maurice Krattenmacher – SSV Ulm 1846
Krattenmacher started for Ulm against Schalke on Friday. He peppered the goal with five shots — three on goal, one just over, and one that hit the crossbar. He also completed 89% of his passes and created a chance for his teammates to shoot. Unfortunately he was not able to score nor create a goal in the 85 minutes he was on the field and the match ended 0-0.
Ulm will travel to face 1.FC Magdeburg on Saturday.
Germany – 3. Liga
Gibson Nana Adu is the only player on loan from the first team in the 3. Liga.
Gibson Nana Adu – Unterhaching
Adu started and played 75 minutes for Unterhaching, was unable to put much influence into the match. The American journeyman, Terrance Boyd, opened the scoring for Waldhof Mannheim in the 12th minute. An own goal leveled the match shortly before halftime. There would be no more scoring in the second half and the match would end 1-1.
Unterhaching will travel to face Stuttgart II on Sunday.
FC Bayern Munich II
There are twelve players on loan from the second team.
Germany – 2. Bundesliga
Hyun-ju Lee is the only player from the second team loaned out to the 2. Bundesliga
Hyun-ju Lee – Hannover 96
Lee started for Hannover 96 at home against Karlsruher SC on Saturday. He had one shot from long distance, which required a save. He only misplayed three passes and was unable to create a chance for his teammates to shoot. Both teams scored a goal while he was on the field. He left the field with the match level at 1-1. Just moments later, KSC conceded a penalty that Hannover scored to win 2-1 and go to the top of the 2. Bundesliga table.
Hannover will travel to face Elversberg on Sunday.
Germany – 3. Liga
Max Scholze is the only player from the second team on loan to the 3. Liga
Max Scholze – SC Verl
Scholze started on the bench for Verl against BVB Dortmund II, but came into the match in the 61st minute with his team down 3-0. Just four minutes later Scholze received a yellow card. Four more minutes later, Verl pulled a goal back to make it 3-1. Unfortunately, no one else scored and the match ended in a 3-1 loss for Verl.
Verl will host Hansa Rostock on Friday.
Germany – Regionalliga
There are six players Regionalliga teams: Lukas Schneller in Regionalliga Bayern, Luka Parkadge and Robert Deziel Jr in Regionalliga Nordost, and Yousef Qashi and Benedikt Wimmer in Regionalliga West.
Lukas Schneller – Schweinfurt 05
Schneller started in goal for Schweinfurt on the road against TSV Aubstadt. He only conceded one goal, but unfortunately he could not get any support from his attack and his team fell 1-0. Fortunately, Schweinfurt still lead the Regionalliga Bayern.
Schweinfurt will host SpVgg Hankofen-Hailing on Saturday.
Marko Popović – Türkgücü München
Popović was on the bench for Türkgücü’s 3-0 loss away to FC Würzburger Kickers, but did not make it onto the pitch.
Türkgücü will host DJK Vilzing on Saturday.
Luka Parkadge – Altglienicke
Parkadge was not on the matchday squad for Altglienicke’s 1-0 loss away to Chemnitzer FC.
Robert Deziel Jr – Altglienicke
Deziel started for Altglienicke and played just the first half. Chemnitzer scored an early goal in the sixth minute, but Deziel could not help get his team back into it before he was subbed off.
Altglienicke will face VFC Plauen on Saturday.
Yousef Qashi – Wupertaler SV
Qashi started and played the full 90 minutes against FC Kray in the Niederrheinpokal — the local cup competition — on Wednesday. Already up 3-0 in the 56th minute, Qashi scored the fourth goal of the match. Needless to say they were not very good hosts to their lower division opponents.
Qashi was on the bench in the return to Regionalliga West play against KFC Uerdingen. He came into the match in the 60th minute, down 2-1 looking for a goal. Unfortunately a goal from him nor his teammates came and they fell by that score of 2-1.
Benedikt Wimmer – Wupertaler SV
Wimmer started and played 73 minutes against FC Kray. He helped his team keep a shutout and was probably given a break for the last quarter hour due to his teammates — including Qashi — putting them up 4-0 at that point. They went on to win 5-0 and comfortably move to the next round.
Wimmer was back in the starting lineup in their return to league play and played the full 90 minutes. They did not have the same luck as they did midweek, and conceded two goals in the first half. They were able to keep a clean sheet in the second half, but it was not enough to earn a result.
Austria – Bundesliga
Matteo Pérez Vinlöf is the only player on loan to the Austrian Bundesliga from the second team.
Matteo Pérez Vinlöf – Austria Wien
Vinlöf started for Austria Wien and played the full 90 minutes against SV Horn in the Austrian Cup. Not much is recorded, but we can report that he did not score nor assist the lone goal, nor did he pick up a card. Austria Wien scored in the 36th minute, which was enough to put them through to the next round.
Vinlöf started on the bench for Austria Wien’s home match against BW Linz and came into the match at halftime when his team was down 1-0. He had 27 touches and sent five passes into the final third, but none of them contributed to a direct chance to score. Luckily, two of his teammates scored to win 2-1 and propel Austria Wien to third place.
Austria Wien will travel to face Wolfsberger AC on Saturday.
Austria – 2. Liga
Tom Hülsmann is the only player on loan to the Austrian 2. Liga from the second team
Tom Hülsmann – SKN St. Pölten
Hülsmann started in goal for St. Pölten and played the full 90 minutes. He faced six shots on goal, but only saved four of them. He conceded a goal in the 22nd minute and then deep in stoppage time of the second half. Unfortunately his team was unable to score any goals to support him and they fell 2-0.
St. Pölten will travel to face SW Bregenz on Friday.
Netherlands – Kampioen Divisie
David Jonathans is the only player on loan to the Dutch Kampioen Divisie.
David Jonathans – FC Den Bosch
Jonathans was on the bench in the first round of the KNVB Cup, but did not make it onto the pitch for the 2-1 loss. It was the same for their 1-1 home draw in the league against Roda JC Kerkrade.
FC Den Bosch will face TOS Opp on Friday.
Portugal – Liga Potugal
Taichi Fukui is the only player on loan in Liga Portugal.
Taichi Fukui – FC Arouca
Fukui started for Arouca against Braga. He had five passes into the final third, but none of them turned into a concrete chance to score. He also did record a single shot. He was subbed off in the 60th minute with his team down 2-0 at home. His replacement scored a goal in the 90th minute, but that was too late and Arouca fell 2-1.
Arouca will travel to face Famalicao on Saturday.
FC Bayern Frauen
There are five players on loan from FC Bayern’s Frauen team.
Germany — Frauen-Bundesliga
Karólína Lea Vilhjálmsdóttir is the only player on loan in the Frauen-Bundesliga.
Karólína Lea Vilhjálmsdóttir – Bayer 04 Leverkusen
Vilhjálmsdóttir started on the bench in her return to Leverkusen from the Icelandic national team. She came into the match against FC Köln in the 62nd minute. She had one shot on goal, but did not contribute much more to the match. Fortunately her team was already up 2-1, and that score line stood through the end of the game and they took all three points back home.
Leverkusen will host Turbine Potsdam on Sunday.
England – Women’s Super League
Jill Baijings is the only player on loan to the Women’s Super League.
Jill Baijings – Aston Villa
Baijings continues to be missing in action at Aston Villa — not appearing again in the matchday squad for their 2-1 home loss against Liverpool.
Villa will travel to face Manchester United on Sunday.
Spain – Primera División Femenina
Natalia Padilla is the only player on loan to the Primera División Femenina.
Natalia Padilla – FC Sevilla
Padilla started for Sevilla in her first game back from international duty in a road match against Granada. She only had one shot — which was blocked — and did not pass very efficiently. She was taken off in the 65th minute with Sevilla down 3-0, which would be the final score.
Sevilla will travel to face Madrid CFF on Saturday.
Sweden – Damallsvenskan
Momoko Tanikawa is the only player on loan to the Damallsvenskan.
Momoko Tanikawa – FC Rosengård
Tanikawa started for Rosengård against Linköpings FC and played the full match. After losing for the first time this season in the last match, they showed no mercy. Tanikawa capped off the scoring in the 86th minute to bring the final score to 4-0. This was her 14th league goal this season.
Rosengård will travel to face Djurgarden in the final match of the season on Saturday.
Italy – Serie A
Cecilía Rán Rúnarsdóttir is the only player on loan to Serie A
Cecilía Rán Rúnarsdóttir – Inter Milan
Rúnarsdóttir returned to her club after matches in the US and was put right back into the starting lineup at keeper on the road to Fiorentina. Her team opened the scoring and took a 1-0 lead into halftime. Unfortunately the second half would not look so well for Inter as they would concede an equalizer in the 61st minute and a late winner from the penalty spot. Inter fell 2-1.
