Gideon Kodua, captain of West Ham’s 2023 FA Youth Cup-winning side, marked his senior FA Cup debut with a memorable goal. Now on his second loan spell at Wycombe, Kodua has found limited opportunities this campaign after initially impressing in the Hammers’ standout EFL Trophy run last season, which ironically ended at Wycombe’s hands.
Though minutes have been scarce for Kodua, the Chairboys’ promotion push in League One has not helped his first team chances with the team playing so well. However, Kodua recently scored in a decisive league win against Burton, earning him a spot in Wycombe’s FA Cup line-up.
Wanderers launched their FA Cup journey with a thrilling 3-2 victory over York City at Adams Park. Kodua struck shortly after Luke Leah’s opener, expertly slotting in a far-post finish off Richard Kone’s pass. Although York fought back twice, Wycombe clinched their fifth consecutive win across all competitions.
The Hammers academy graduate featured regularly during pre-season, even playing at right back under new head coach Julen Lopetegui. The winger will now be hoping that goals in such close proximity will help him force his way into Wanderers starting line-up.
